I've always thought that GT wings and big loud exhausts, body kits etc were all lame and just for ricers who want to make a car out to be something it's not...
But, after seeing photo's and video's (especially) of lowered Rx7's on nice rims, a modest kit (or simply a lip/conversion) and a "GT Wing"....it's starting to grow on me. I'm also a wingless fan! I like the wingless clean coupe look. Do they market a rear "Lip" like what's on the viper? I think that could work on the rx7, instead of a spoiler or gt-wing...a flap of some sorts that curls up like the old TA's had and Viper....perhaps too "american"... So what's your opinions on GT wings on Rx7's? |
I'm a big fan of the wing, but only the real deal. here's my car with the Mazdaspeed GTC wing https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Question: How is it functional? Is it at that height/angle it actually provides downforce? At what speeds? Oh I had that picture as my wallpaper for a while (and the other 3/4 shot) And also, when I saw one in action in that video "Battle of the Imports" with a Silvia vs. Orio's (Something like that) Supra vs. Skyline GTR vs. FD3S (It had nice wheels/tires, beautifully lowered with modest kit, and wing...ugly color though). I am still undecided, but for now i'll just go wingless (when i get the freaken car lol). I got time. Just lookin for others opinions... |
yeah, we pretty badass !
|
all mazdasped parts are wind tunnel tested and proven...now weither its proven to be functional or not is a different story..lol just busting your chops guys cause i'm jealous
|
I have the Cusco GT Wing fitted and when adjusted all the way up (max downforce) I cant go about 130mph. With it flat I can get above 150mph but at that point it feels even more stable than with the standard low level spoiler.

hahaha well... being that it is Mazdaspeed and it's been through R&D, i'm convinced it's functional... i mean.. you can adjust it.. bwahahahah but seriously, i'm sure if you do high speed runs and really play w/ the different angles of adjustment you'd get different results as far as down force... I'm actually goin to test it since my rear feels too squated at high speeds.. who knows.. but i'll try.. I basically wanted a GTC wing since I love watching and love following the JGTC cars... I didn't really want to go all out w/ a CWest/RE CF wing... that requires a wide body IMHO...
That was Orido-san driving his blue Supra... I didn't like the video since all the other cars where modded much more than the FD... too bad that guy had to shave his hair again... the guy in the skyline.. LOL |

I showed my friends the Vids (the guys who tease me ever since I've gone from Supra to Rx7) and they were silenced when I showed them how the other three cars had 150+ HP on the Rx7 PLUS they all had aftermarket turbo's! It was a very fun video though, cool to hear an American announcer explain it all instead of just constant Japanese screaming lol. I see what you mean about the wing, I'll have to see if I get a kit or not...I think it helps if the car has a sideskirt/lip etc. |
my suggestion... keep all the asthetics off until you do all the reliablity mods first.. then suspension/wheels... that alone will keep you smiling!! once you've acheive that.. then you can work on exterior to improve the performance and looks...

With the supra i started doing the same, planning too far ahead. This was simply a question that I'll answer in the FAR future. I am planning on buying blown and rebuilding myself so hopefully all the reliability (SOME power) will go in from the get go. Then, definitely, first comes Suspension/Wheels...and from there I'll decide if it needs more or not (kit might get all bent/scratched if i have it lowered and such). https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png |

Thanks Lee hehe
Yeah its pretty tall, but it fits the FD nicely, Im a fan of wingless too. I just think spoilers on stock BMWs, Mercedes, some VANS, Hondas from the early 90s are all a little too rice for me, but to each their own. |
I love the wavey carbon fiber wings. I hate the flat aluminum ones. I saw an new RX8 with one and it looked like a ricemobile. I think the wing has to match the car with style! You can't just slap on a generic wing and expect it to look good (No No No).
There is a Vipor style rear wing but I can't remember the company right now and can't find the link. Maybe Jason knows which one? |
simply put, i'm not really a fan of alum. wings, but the CF ones look nice most of the time...

Interested in checking out that video...
Anyone have a link? Thanks, Mike |
