I'm looking to buy an FD in the coming month or so, and I was just wondering if any of you guys had issues fitting inside. I'm 6'4 and 165lbs. I know I have trouble fitting into a Miata, but this is mainly because the steering column doesn't adjust.

Thanks for the help.

Mike~~

vosko 05-03-2005 10:21 PM

steering column is fixed in a FD also but i think you will fit just don't plan on wearing a helmet or you will need an even lower bucket seat

treceb 05-03-2005 10:29 PM

fd is larger than a miata, but not by much....

N'CTRL 05-03-2005 10:31 PM

Hmm...I don't like that no-helmet idea as I do like to auto-x. What if its a car with out a sunroof...will that allow for enough room?

vosko 05-03-2005 10:39 PM

no sunroof gives you a littlle more room. best bet is try it out........i'm pretty sure though you will need a bucket seat

GreyGT-C 05-03-2005 10:40 PM

i'm 6'2" and i fit.. you may get proficient at moving the headliner for autox events to get more headroom. Not sure if that is allowed or not in your class though..

phinsup 05-03-2005 10:55 PM

You'll fit in an fd, it's bigger then a miata enough to make it work.

KingFD 05-04-2005 01:42 AM

You'll fit. Seat right back, with the back support clicked back 2 or 3 notches.

Fd3BOOST 05-04-2005 07:56 AM

I'm 6'1" and I fit but with the sunroof in my car It's next to impossible to wear a helmet without kicking the seat way back. It would be a tight fit for you no doubt.

rfreeman27 05-04-2005 04:35 PM

vosko's wrong, not having a sunroof gives you MORE room...

you should fit, im about 6 foot and have plenty of room

6'4" and 165lbs. . .eat somethin' boy!? : ) I'm 6' with a Sparco EVO Racing seat and I fit just fine. If I spike my hair it barely touches the roof. Just remember if you want to fit in there bad enough you'll find a way. As far as the headroom comparison the RX-7 has .5" more room

TylerTRD 05-05-2005 12:45 PM

humm...the car is an R1 but then I put the leather seats in it...could that have somthing to do with my lack of head room?

I'm 6'3" or 6'4" (been measured both) and 180 lbs., and I fit find in an FD that didn't have a sunroof, with over an inch (at least) to spare. Much more comfortably than my FC with a sunroof.

jsplit 05-05-2005 05:13 PM

It all depends on where your height is. I'm 6'5 + and fit fine. But all of my height is really in my legs, so with the seat all the way back I'm fine as far as headroom goes.

If you do have a problem fitting buy a smaller diameter wheel and if you still have problems get some seats with lower brackets.

I am 5"8 and 150 pounds. I fit inside the stock FD. but the steering wheel is on way when I want to do Heel toe..... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png . my friend is 6 '3 can fit into FD if you want to know . But I recomand you do change steering wheel and seat if you plan to take it to Solo Event...

SilverSeven 05-06-2005 04:10 AM

You should be ok (depending on your definition of "fit"). My roommate is 6'7", and he's driven my car with the non-reclining race seats. He looked about as comfortable as if I'd stuffed him into a newspaper vending machine, but he was able to drive part of the trip. I think the only thing that made it possible was the tiny Momo wheel and quick release (which moves the wheel away from your knees by about 3 inches).

I think we can work something out for that tape to never surface to the media, PM me for details.
