I have looked into boost gauge installs, but from the ones i found they have to do with the mechanical gauges. Mines is a electronic one so i have more wires then normal. I know for illumination you should tap into the lighter, but what about the others? They inc......
Red - 12v ignition Orange - 12v constant yellow - illumination black - ground Id rather keep them all running to the same area to keep it clean. As of right now I have my gauge cluster/steering shroud area removed so whats in there i can tap into? |
get a test light and find them under the dash.

I'm not sure that the lighter is best for the illumination source if you want it to come on with the rest of the dash lights.
If you pull up the center console panel, there is a small light that illuminates your ashtray. It has two wires to it, power and ground. This is where my boost guage is tapped for illumination. It's easy to get to, not far from my column mounted guage and only comes on with the rest of the dash lights. You can even adjust the brightness with the rest of the factory guages. |

You might be out of luck on the illumination. Usually you have to connect both wires from the gauge to both wires from the ashtray light to get the illumination right. Since your gauge is electronic and has only one ground, you can't do that. See if you can separate the illumination ground if you want the gauge to dim with the dash lights. Or just hook it up with the light on with the ignition switch. Or figure out a circuit that will dim the gauge with a common ground (need some electronics smarts for this).

I dont usually fool with the cars dimmer, just leave it on high. So if im not worried about dimming, i do still want it to come on when the lights are turned on. So do you think that lil light over the ignition would work?

just make it easy on yourself and tap into the radio's wires. Radio will have a constant 12v, ground, dimmer, and ACC wire. Everything you need. Plus it will be a clean install if you are good with routing and hiding wires. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif
