im mounting my radiator strait up and down like a lot of people do. and i also have a large front mount. but the oil cooler is in the way to run my intercooler piping just the way i want it.

so i had an idea to ged rid of the little stock cooler and use the FC oil cooler. and place it inbetween the FMIC and the radiator.

now would this cut away to much air from the radiator.? even if i upgrade to something like a 3000cfm electric fan or better? i was thinking if my fan was strong enough, it would pull air through all three. and be even better that way.

My gut feeling is that it would be a problem. No matter how strong of a fan you have, or how fast your going down the road, the volumn of air you'll be able to get through all that will be limited, even with a vented hood. And each will tend to heat-sink that air a bit more.

FD's are more vulnerable to heat apparently then fc's.

my fc has the oil cooler mounted right between the rad and monster FMIC with a 3300cfm e-fan pulling air behind it.

it's mainly drag tho, and not running so no stats on temps lol.

damn...i already started mounting the radiator. and the front mount dosnt have to much options other than....front mount. im thinking of mounting th oil cooler slanted. kinda like it is in the FC. so this would let the radiatior breath more....any other ideas???

FikseRxSeven 02-19-2007 11:37 AM

restricting the flow to the radiator and increasing the temperature of the air to the radiator is never a good thing.

even the front mount by itself will lessen the effitiveness of your radiator

so anyone have any oil cooler mounting ideas??? the radiator is mounted already. and the front mount, like i said before. is only going on one way. since i dont like the V-mount set ups to much. and i dont want one on the sides where there originally located...

i think im stuck and will have to put them sort of in the stock placement....

unless someone can help me out with a mounting idea......

Someone will have to verify this for me, but I swear I remember seeing a diagram for oil cooler mounting on the mazdacomp site. They had it laying down in front of the rad, parallel to the ground. They had a panel diverting air to the oil cooler (like looking at the front of the car, there'd be a large opening to the intercooler, then a small opening under it to the oil cooler). The air would exit underneat the car, and the oil cooler would get air dedicated to it, and the heat from the oil cooler wouldn't heatsoak anything else.

better than the stock oil cooler???

sounds ill! got any pics of this set up???

just had another idea....

what instead of using the pull type fan as it comes with. i use a pusher fan. so that the fan is on the otherside pulling in air and pushing it through.....

it creates even more room in the engine bay and i was thinking maybe that it would pullair through the oil cooler and intercooler if i still mount them all in a row...

here check this out....lol
