Well this is simple. I am new, but have had the 3rd gen been my dream car since i was about 11 years old. I'll have about 10 grand by april. I want to get a 3rd gen but be able have a nice reliable engine, but have a decent amount of mods, or whatever you suggest... Just tell me what i can with 10 grand...

Joe Flo 09-21-2003 05:20 PM

10grand? That is alot of lap dances!!

Bascially for 10k I would go single turbo. That is relaible enough for me

JimmyJimboJet 09-21-2003 06:00 PM

do you have an FD yet? if not, you should be able to find one with a blown engine, maybe even one without one. get a reman with rebuilt with a streetport for ~10k

daydreamer 09-22-2003 06:37 PM

No I do not have one yet. I remember seeing several FD's for about 4 grand with several mods, just no engines. With that i'm sure there's lots of options, I just don't know how often I can find one like that for 4 grand.

turbovr6 09-22-2003 06:41 PM

put a deposit on a house, rent it out, watch the cash flow in and build a really nice FD https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Drifter93 09-22-2003 07:27 PM

Give me 5k and I will help you spend the rest.

I would by a fd that is in very good condition with no engine in it. Then all you have to do is by a reman and have a port job done to it, then if you still have money witch you should you could go single. The key is to be patient, good luck.

daydreamer 09-22-2003 10:08 PM

Yea exactly. What I need to do is get in contact with people around the Northern Virginia area and learn as much as possible. I really need to know how possible it really is to find hopefully a 93 or preferably 94 FD with some aftermarket parts (either suspension, looks or engine) in good shape all around with no engine for about 3-5 grand. Anyone around the Northern Virginia Area looking to help someone over the next 5 months would be awesome. Heres my AIM: blahblah38492 and my e-mail deviantrapture@hotmail.com

daydreamer 09-22-2003 10:36 PM

Also another thing.. i'm looking to learn more first.. i only know more on history of the RX-7 than specifics... if that helps

daydreamer 09-23-2003 10:01 AM

What do people here not help newcomers anymore?

chase78 09-23-2003 10:04 AM

About every 100K the engine goes and about 10K to 20K later the turbos go also. try to get a low milage car around 50K to 60K.

Look for cars with a downpipe and ungraded AL radiator.

I would spend buy

lowering springs new coil overs with stiffer sway bars.

about $2K

this mod takes the rx-7 from being a great car to a race level

Anytype of larger intercooler

$1k to 1.8K

stock intercooler just way to small + extra HP + prevents detonation

Silicon hose job $500 to 900

go to rxforyour7.com for the hoses $65

prevent twin turbo trouble before it starts

HKS CDI ignition $450 to 550

pass emission without a worry + increase HP, MPG

short shifter $200

prevents 5th synchro grinding

the rest save or do what you want until the engine goes.

go to rx-7store.net they have good prices

FikseRxSeven 09-23-2003 10:04 AM

go to www.rotaryillustrated.com

FikseRxSeven 09-23-2003 10:05 AM

with 10 thousand, you MIGHT find a stock FD in so so shape. if i were you i wouldnt jump the first opportunity at getting an fd, thats how you make mistakes....... like me https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

SO

Wait do you have the money for a car + 10,000

or

10,000 only?

becuase if you only have 10,000 bucks Then i would suggest that you get a 300Z. RX-7 is not a poor mans car by anymeans.

daydreamer 09-23-2003 12:44 PM

Only ten grand. Ok people, i'm not a complete newby. I know a decent amount of stuff, i'm just not trying to pretend like i do know a lot probably like a lot of people here. I know its not a poor mans car, its not like only 10 grand is going into it. I will definetly probably put another 6 grand from summer.

no room for smart people here pal, think with ur other brain

10k = 3rotor

chase78 09-23-2003 07:09 PM

save up the 16,000 and find a car with low mileage with the mods and pay around $12,000 to 15,000.

What you dont want is a car in OK shape or a fixer uper for around 8000 to 10000, which it looks like you are leaning towards. They are a headache and you end up spending a lot more money.

The extra $4000 or so will goes quick. You dont want to be looking at a $5000 to 7000 engine rebuild on top of buying the new car so milage is important.

good luck.

Danomite 09-23-2003 07:36 PM

can you get a loan for 1/2 the car, cause then you would have some left over for tax/title/reliability mods / maintenance / insurance etc..

dont be like I used to be and forget about all the **** you HAVE to pay for just to have the car.

PhoenixDownVII 09-24-2003 08:45 AM

Take your time and buy the car first and then the engine.

I figured I can find a blown FD for $6-7k, and the same for the rebuild (maybe with some mods, and especially if I drop it in myself) for $6-7k as well.

Should be in the $12-14k given that math, and if you only have $10k, finance the rest, its not much and can build credit.

Like someone else mentioned though, be ready for the fact of maintenance with such a car:

Oil

Tires

Insurance

+ the initial tax and title swaps. And shipping for the engine/car if far... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

rx7freddie 09-26-2003 06:21 AM

Turbo II 09-26-2003 02:31 PM

oh and i would do what turbovr6said. be smart and plan for the future. invest in a house and make money off of that. other than that. 10k aint gonna get u nothing but a stock fd that will run for 3 months then sit for another year cause u dont have the money to fix it.

go with a fb or a fc. learn how to drive it before u buy it
