So my mechanic just finished dropping in a new 13B-REW after the old one cooked. While putting in the new engine we decided to do the non-sequential conversion. This is as background and I don't know if it has any bearing on the problem.

When I turn the key to the ON position, the dash warning lights come on, the screen with the mileage appears, everything's normal. As soon as I start the engine, none of the gauges seem to respond. even the display with the mileage goes blank. RPM reads 0, speed reads 0. The only thing that doesn't read 0 is the oil pressure gauge which goes off the scale instantly. This might be a bad sender so it may not be relevant.

We're completely stumped by the problem. tried grounding the whole instrument cluster, bypassed all the electronics that are tapped into the ignition (digital gauges, turbo timer, etc). I can see the RPM and speed on the power FC, just nothing on the dash. Swapping the power FC for the stock ECU made no difference.

are the dash gauge sensors relying on different sensors? could this be some weird short circuit? any and all ideas are greatly appreciated. thanks!!!

I would start with a wiggle test to see if you have loose\bad connections, if you cant find anything by wiggling get a wiring diagram and check you inputs to the ipc. if you still cant find anything you can always do a voltdrop test on the power and grounds . if you checking the power and grounds with a dvom the resistance in is realy low through the meter and it wont pull amps and wont show a bad wire\connection u should use a test light because it actualy pulls amps to iluminate the light. there are different circuits for the multiple gauges each one has its own input ,which sends a signal to ipc
