I was considering getting underdrive pulleys

Worth doing?

Which Ones? (Unothodox?)

do i do all 4?

WishIhadaRX7 07-16-2003 03:17 PM

Depends, what do you want to get out of them?

-HP? Not worth the money, spend it somewhere else.

-Longevity of accessories? Depends on how hard (fast) you drive your car, but prolly is worth it.

Razerx 07-16-2003 03:21 PM

Ok, i have heard HP gains of 10 -20. Is this all BS?

WishIhadaRX7 07-16-2003 03:26 PM

It doesn't actually ADD any power, it only frees the engine from the power robbing accessories.

Most people notice a slight difference in acceleration, but that's about it.

Razerx 07-16-2003 06:02 PM

I am still looking for best deal Quality/price. Do you need all 4 or just the main one. Of course having them all the same color is a nice bling, bling. Any recommendations of manufacturer?

WishIhadaRX7 07-16-2003 06:04 PM

I think Unorthodox makes like almost all of them, the individual vendors just put their own logos on them.

You don't need all of them, but having them all would increase the benefits.

Razerx 07-16-2003 06:07 PM

Thanks, wishIhadaRX7. Funny some threads gets tons of comments, others.... well i would have thought 10 people would jumped on about these.

WishIhadaRX7 07-16-2003 06:09 PM

Maybe everyone agreed with me? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

rfreeman27 07-16-2003 06:40 PM

yes, we did. alt. and main pully are the most popular. the kits that come with the belt require airpump removal

jramosrx7 07-16-2003 06:48 PM

I've had the pulleys since '93 or so. Tested and kept the prototypes from Rotary Performance.

Negligible to no hp gain. Main benefit is when running the car on-track or at high rpm for extended periods of time. Reduces/eliminates cavitation in the cooling system due to turning of pump slower.

Razerx 07-16-2003 06:56 PM

Thanks Joe, seems like an expensive set for low benifits. since most go for $300 - $400

WishIhadaRX7 07-16-2003 07:05 PM

Well if you look at the cost to replace your accessories, and are regularly at a racetrack then it is worth it, otherwise.....

JadedX 07-16-2003 10:44 PM

my full set of indigo pulleys were $400

looks alot better

havent really driven the car yet so can't tell if preformacne is better

Razerx 07-17-2003 12:26 AM

JadedX, let me know when you drive it, if you notice anything.

Thanx

FikseRxSeven 07-17-2003 02:49 AM

they will certainly make your engine bay bling

1Revvin7 07-17-2003 02:51 AM

Well I have had them and they suck ass for street cars.. I get low volts at idle... I have heard of 15rhwp gain on the dyno...( on a t2)

FikseRxSeven 07-17-2003 02:53 AM

yeah i have heard that your dome lights gets dim when you're on idle when you have aftermarket pulleys

y do u need your dome light on at idle?

i might be hard to tell a difference since i put a mp,cat-back, intakes, fmic, and pulleys at the same time. as well as takeing the ac, ps, and air pump off

but i will tell you if i like it

i'm building a new system and i always have the amp running with or without the car running. i haven't really seen to much power loss yet at idle. but everyone is diffrent

Razerx 07-17-2003 10:48 AM

i don't really commute in the car, but definately street drive it and so as long as the ALT is charging the battery during driving it should be fine.
