Any recommendations for rotary mechanics to work on the turbocharger on my '93? The car runs well most of the time. For several seconds the engine slows and stutters then resumes running smoothly. There have been multiple oily drippings under the front of the car as well. The local Mazda service people say there are leaking seals that are allowing oil into the turbocharger. They don't rebuild them, they say. They would put in a new turbocharger for 񙄀. I'm looking for alternatives. TIA. -Rob

To continue my previous post: I'm looking for a good RX 7 shop in the Long Island, NY, area. Please read the previous post. Thanks. -Rob

If you don't mind doing the work yourself you can get a turbo rebuild kit for 跌 for both turbos. The kit has everything needed to re-build your turbos new seals, etc...

Thanks for the reply, Jason. Since I don't have a garage and work 60+ hours a week and have been relying on the RX-7 for transportation, rebuilding myself is not an option. -Rob

There are companies that you can ship your turbo off to, to have them rebuilt. I've seen prices anywhere from 񘈨 to 񙇈....being a 3rd gen, its always gonna cost a wad to get things fixed. Your other option would be to swap over to a larger single turbo, ya know..spruce things up a little :)
If you are interested in some shops that would rebuild your turbo, let me know, and I'll get you some links... |
Thanks for the ideas. I've talked with KDRotary outside of Allentown, Pa, and will bring it in for a check up. Since the spark plugs were replaced, the engine is running smoothly. It's still dripping oil, but I'm not so sure the turbos are the problem. The appointment is for October 5. I'll update you then. thanks. -Rob

Thats a great shop!! Where are you located?

On Long Island. It's a bit of a drive, but at least I have reason to believe they know what they're doing. -Rob
