I get two stories on cracks in the casting between the turbos.
One group says cracks are normal, and as long as they work without leaking, burn on. Another group says "Oh geez, a crack!" and says that is bad, must be fixed, or willl propagate and leak hot gasses. How does one decide whether a crack is bad enough to require attention? Can the castings be welded/fixed? Does Mazda themselves give any guidance in the maintenance manual? What is the worst that could happen if you put the turbos back in with cracks? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png |
don't know much about your problem but the worst that could happen is just low or no boost. if it actually leaks then you'll be shooting hot air into your engine compartment which isn't too good.

some small cracks are to be expected. however, if they get into the 2-3mm width, you will start to notice some performance drop, however, not too drastic. a crack is fine, but a large crack, well, that isa a different story...

Cracks are a normal part of owning a car that was not given enough forethought to the amount of heat produced/retained by the powerplant. As long as the crack doesn't cross the gasket line, you will be fine.

this would be acceptable...hope it helps

Actually, that would be better than acceptable. People would hope to have cracks that minimal.
