i have noticed an increasingly annoying noise from my tranny area, and it also comes up through the shifer, and it is somewhat troublesome to me.

the charachteristics of the noise are as follows...

1. sounds like a slight grinding, almost like deep static, if you gather my meaning

2. DOES NOT HAPPEN when the clutch pedal is depressed, period

3. makes noise at idle/neutral, and while driving.

4. seems muffled while driving, but most likely due to road noise, and exhaust note, but is very noticeable at idle, and is somewhat quieted when i place my hand atop the shifter itself.

if anyone has any ideas or experiences please share them, and enlighten me as to what it could be. i know that it is most likely not a throw out bearing because it is new, along with the 8.5# flywheel and the act clutch. i also know that by being a pull type clutch, it also eliminates a few possibilities..........so.....if you could, help....i am ready to rid my car of this noise......

its the bearings on the fd seem to get noisy over time, its nothing to worry about until it gets really loud

which bearing would that be?

oh, and thanks for the input mike, you do not think that it is the input shaft or anything major like that?

it sounds like the same problem my friend's type r is having... well not really a problem. it was suggested that the bearing is just a little less lubed so it isn't rolling/gliding smoothly and such but shouldnt cause a problem until, like mike said, it becomes really loud cause then it could be unlubed or seized, whatever.

mine never made noise then the bearing broke and i twisted every shaft in the trans!

its prolly all of em a little worn, i dunno. it's really not worth rebuilding, a new tranny is the same money

word....but i was thinking that pettit did my tranny work like 18K miles ago, and maybe i should just give them a shout. the only thing that i know that they did was replace the 5th gear synchro.....i am going to change the fluid and see if that helps.....

5th gear is by itself, 1-4 are not touched unless they did something more than 5th
