I'm getting new tires for my FD after Winter is over and wanted a few opinions on which type to buy? It doesn't see the track much, almost all street driving and driven year round. Currently I have Dunlops SP Sport 225 z rated. Anything similar to these or better?

we have been doin alot of tires this year and have found good luck with falken rt615s but since your needing an all season id check into the continental contitouring pro . the rx8s we put them on drive rather nicly and the owners love them.

I am looking for tires with a lot of grip for good handling, not necessarily concerned with the best all-season tire, I can always drive slow in the rain and avoid the snow. Basically I want a good summer tire with some grip in the wet.

i as well as a few other freinds with high hp fc3s and dsms use the falken rt615 and love them, also we use the toyo ra-1 tires for track days and when not shaved last along ass time with major grip. you can also look into yokahama a048 aswell

I dont want to spend a lot of money and I heard the Kumho series is a decent tire, has anyone ever tried them out?

toyo proxes 4 are a great all season performance tire.



id avoid *most* kuhmos like the plague. same goes for continental, dunlop, bfg, and goodyear.



the only goodyear worth a damn is the eagle f1 series. the ones fikse mentioned are pretty awesome and do remarkbly well in the rain for a high-perf. tire.



oh and michelins suck too.



most people know nothing about tires and simply think since there tires dont blow out that they're good tires.

I swear by the Falken rt-615 tire. I have tried other things (including kumhos) and like the falkens the best. I have been driving on my rt-615 for about 15k miles and they still have a bit of tread on them. That is amazing to me considering not only how I drive but that they are a soft compound racing tire. I will replace them very soon though. If you want something more streetable I would suggest the st-115. They don't grip as well as the azenis but they last much longer and are better in the rain.

Which type kumhos were you riding, any that are better than others?

Kumho MX are awesome IMO. I've been running them for 3 years and about 10k miles in size 255/40/17. I track the car, autocross and use them on the street. They have good enough grip to get traction at my power levels (~330 rwhp). On the road course they are great. They don't get overly hot and the grip stays consistent. At the limit, they communicate well letting you know when they run out of grip. They are also a really good wet weather tire providing wet weather traction similar to the Toyo T1s. The side walls are reasonably stiff and provide good steering input. Wear is good also.



The Falkens are pretty popular these days and they get a lot of the internet fan-boi people saying how great they are. The 615s were designed to be a great autocross tires. They are very sticky and heat up quickly but I wouldn't want to use them to drive on a regular basis. Most people wear them out very quickly.



Another good option is the Toyo T1R but they have softer side walls and feel a little mushy to me. They do give a slightly better ride though thanks to those mushy side walls.



For the price vs performance, I'd say Kumho is a great option.

Unlike the GSD3 and BFG KDWs, I don't have any personal experience with the KUMHO MX. But I've heard good things about them from one person at a local autoX event and from another person in a local car club I belong to. IIRC there was an article I read in a magazine some time back, (GRASSROOTS MOTORSPORTS maybe?) that also gave them good reviews. If I get the new street wheels I'm hoping for, I may give the MX a try myself.
