Ok i have alot of frens wit rotary here in hawaii mostly rx8s. Barely see any nice fds arounds so thats why im thinkin of picking one up. Doing some research im finding most people say the fd is unreliable. I need a car for daily use would it be ok and long as i dont mod it out to much? i Have a350z right now and im thinkin of selling and trying to find a nice fd any feed back would be helpful.

as long as you have the right reliability mods done to the car it should run great. the hoses rott to ****, so replace those, get a second oil cooler if you buy a touring fd, and after i beat on the car i leave the hood open for a little bit, it gets stupid hot under there. oh ya and dont use synthetic oil!

thanks man i was trying to find a r1 but it seems hopeless to find one in good condition at a good price. I have been mostly looking at the touring models and found some very good prices. Dont really care bout engine n trans condition because im going to swap it wit a rebuilt motor and new trans. Could u tell me some mods that help reliability. I dont want the car to be stupid fast but at least be able to pull on 350z

aftermarket downpipe with heat wrap takes most of the heat out...

and silicone vacuum hoses would be a good idea.

fd is not right for you if you wanna use it for daily use, specially at a really hot place like hawaii... im sure parts are pretty scarce over there also

Yea parts are scarce but i can order stuff from mainland. same thing everyone has to do for every other car any way. I jus really want a fd already in love with the car. Goona sell the z n go for it!

FD's are beautiful cars at the least if you want one go for it. I would suggest that in a hot place like hawaii you at least get a good aluminum radiator and a set of HD cooling fans, vented hood, heat wraped exhaust, dual oil coolers a MUST ! ! !, and a nice FMIC or a well ducted V mount. heat is the enemy in RX-7's and they produce lots of it so you want to do everything in your power to keep the temps under control. even a well designed Water/Alky injection kit would help keep your motor clean and lower intake temps.

and with a full exhaust, a nice intake, and an upgraded inter cooler w/ a little fuel mods you should very easily pull a 350z IMO

Parts can always be ordered. If its the car he wants then bye god he can have one daily driver or not he will just have to deal with the maintanence

I'd keep your Z. The rx7 is going to be a pain in the balls compared to your Z.

If the Rx-7 is your passion then go for it, but I suggest you have a reliable car to drive as backup for WHEN it breaks. It will. All cars do and FDs are getting old, and have been consistently abused.

I see nothing wrong with using synthetic oil once the motor is broken but that is a whole other discussion. lol

Install a downpipe without the pre-cat, an after market radiator and air separator tank, If you had the money I would go single turbo. A lot less hoses to worry about and the twin turbo system the car came with is very problematic. Trust me, I know https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.gif The oil pressure gauge sucks. It is inaccurate, IF it works and the temp gauge is non linear. I know the wiring harness in the car has a problem getting to hot and melting, causing the wires inside to cross. The door handles tend to break easily. There was a time when I entered my car through the trunk. lol I don't have a clunker either. If you want to rely on your car as a daily driver I suggest you change/fix all those things. Even on a nice car you will spend A LOT in reliability mods and repairs. My FD is my "daily driver" and she is out of service again now. It happens and it is the price I pay for making this car my passion. Even that car is a pain in the ass, and a huge pain in my wallet I wouldn't trade it for the world.
