Got my '93RX in '96, complete with new engine still under warranty. Developed the usual oil pan leakage and the dealer fixed it, no charge. The thing began leaking again a couple years ago, and I have been just keeping an eye on it, rather than pay out of pocket for something that may not work (and it was a seven hour job.)

So, the question(s): is there a better fix than what the dealers do; and, has anyone heard if this (common) RX problem can turn catastrophic while driving down the street (and immedtiately cooking the engine, etc?)

There's not much to it: A gasket and some silicone. alot of people don't even use the gasket. I just use silicone. If it starts leaking from the oil pan gasket again then maybe the flange on the pan isn't perfectly flat.

13BAce,

Thanks for the reply. That's what I suspected...just looking for a second opinion...

Our local rotary tech made this to reinforce the pan to the subframe.

This is where it's mounted to the subframe.

You're welcome. The best thing to do would be to check it out when you remove it. Are you SURE the leak is from the oil pan?

What is it made from?

Wot he told me: "Without stainless steel support, the three bolts per mount indent the pan. With the support, motor mount squishes stainless steel support which is thicker than pan and does not indent, therefore not indenting pan giving oil a passage way out. spreads out pressure applied to pan"

CAD$150 for support

That makes sense. The price isn't too bad.

Thanks, HedgeHog,

A logical solution, well explained and documented. I may be in touch with you later, as I am pondering that and other minor things I must do to the car...Dave (RX/CRX/WRX)
