hey fellas,

I went to the track for the first time this weekend. I'm a little disappointed at my times...14.5@98.4 w/ 2.37s 60' then 14.25@100 w/ 2.31s 60'.

I didn't do any race prep (i.e. lowering rear tire pressure).

I only have air filter and rb dual exhaust for perf mods.

Needless to say I need help with my launches and more advice when preping for the strip.

What tire pressure should I drop it to? Should I do a burnout before lining up?

what did you launch at, what tires are you using, auto or manual?

Only do a burn out if you have special drag racing tires that get sticky. Doing a burn out with street tires will actually make your traction worse.

When i was on street tires, i would do a small one to get all the rocks and crap off. But nothing more then a quick drop of the clutch.

Back on topic,

I launch at 7-8k, dump the clutch. Im on ET streets though https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I would try lowering the pressure to the low 20's. Try easing the clutch out at around 3k. Try dumping the clutch. the point is, you have to find where your traction is. Nobody can tell you how to launch, you gotta learn for yourself. When you find the right spot you will know it.

On street tires the best 60 i got was 2.0, so dont sweat it too much. Im into the low 1.6's with et streets and stock suspension.

hmm...

I tried reving to about 3.2k then ease the clutch out for a split second before I drop it. But I still get wheel spin/hop.

At 3k i bog down and at 3.5k I don't move at all...

I think I'll try lowering my tire pressure next time to around 20-sumthin psi?

sounds good. feather the clutch out when you launch.

i wouldnt go under 20 psi on street tires. It will be pointless to go lower then that.

You can actually tune the pressure by first laying out a nice visible burnout. If the 'patch' is thick in the middle, there is too much pressure. If there are lines from the edges of the tires, and not much rubber put down in ther middle of the footprint, there is not enough tire pressure.

I am not sure how well that works on street tires, but it is a easy way to tell how your pressure is doing.

slipping the clutch is much easier on the driveline too. If you always dump the clutch you're gonna wear the pillow balls in the rear susp (thay are a eak link anyways) and they are not cheap...$30-$35 each and there are 6 of them. If you get wheel-hop just ease up a bit.
