Total cost: $11.95, two beers, and 3 hours. |

just wondering wha...
Oh. I'm slow. like a FOX!! |
Do the vinyl thing. If you need pointers, let me know. I didn't take pics of the install process, but I could talk you through it. If you're using vinyl, instead of paint, you get the added comfort of knowing you won't destroy your inner lenses if you screw up! |

Go to a shop that makes "signs" usually, that's all the name of the shop will say... or some variant of that. Black is such a common color for use, that the shop probably has some scrap lying around. Just ask them for some black vinyl sticker, 30"x10" (or some area equivalent), let them know you do not need any "die cutting" or printing or anything, just the vinyl stock. They'll usually sell you the scrap for dirt cheap. if it's more than $5.00, go somewhere else (cause they're ripping you off). 30"x10" was enough for me to do all my lights, and to re-do the 1st turn signal that I fucked up.
You'll need help installing the vinyl if you've never worked with it before... there are some tricks.. let me know when you get that far, i'll walk you through the rest. |
Now that I have batteries for the digicam, here's the pic of my wing..

do you just stick the vinyl on or do you have to heat it up or anything?

Go find or buy a clean normal size plastic spray bottle thingy. Put about 3 drops of dish soap or liquid hand soap or baby shampoo for every 8 ounces of water in the bottle. If you have a friend, have them spray (lightly, preferrably) the back of the vinyl as you remove it from the backing. If no friend, carefully remove the vinyl and spray the back.
After the vinyl back is wet, it won't stick under light pressure to your lenses. you should be able to slide it around on the lens, as it floats on a cushion of soap. It will stick very well to itself, however, so don't let it fold over! You can also spray the lens a little if you would like. Then, you need to squeegee (sp?) the water out from under the sticker. This can take some time. Just grab a soft cloth, get the surface (top) of the sticker/lens a little wet, and use your thumb inside the cloth to push the water out to the sides. You may have to repeatedly do this. Be careful of paper towels, they scratched my lenses! |
Thanks for the info man. :bigok:
