Well I went to go pick up my car from the shop today to the sound of clicking.

The guy said that he would start it every once in a while and then turn it off after a few minutes. Basically he prolly flooded it a few times. Couple of quesions before I try to find out what it is....

If the Engine is flooded would it even crank?

Battery is 30 minutes old so that is ruled out...

All the accessories come on but the car wont start. I just get a click and a high pitched hummm. Could it be the Starter.(I am gonna take that out right now and have it checked)

Ignition coil....How doy ou check that?

Ignitiong switch.... could that be it?

Any help is good help. Thanks

Pull the plugs, see if they are fouled.

I pulled the plugs out and they had a strong smell of gasoline. They looked fine to me though. So does that meant he engine was flooded....?

I thought whent he engine flooded it would at least crank. Was I wrong, Or is it something else?

Joe Flo 06-28-2003 06:06 PM

Well I think it is flooded. Cause I am in the process of unflooding it. I tookt he spark plugs out and took the fuel pump fuse out and I am just trying to crank the hell out of it. Right whan I got to the poitn of cussing at her, she tried to turn over....It was music to my ears. But the only problem is she wont do it again. WTF....

check the main fuse also. i had my fd apart for a long time and i somehow blew the main fuse....ok ok i grounded out when i was working on the uim....but anyways it would crank and crank but wouldnt fire. anyways it cant hurt to look

The car still won't turn over, right? If you can here I click and then a high speed whirring, your starter may not be engaging the flywheel.

Having the starter checkes is reeaally easy. Takes 15 minutes tops to take it off and 2 minutes for the test. I just had mine rebuilt this week, it pulled 300 amps with no load. It wouldn't even turn the engine over, but when it tried it would kill the lights and everything because it took all the battery at once.

It would probably cost you $100 to do a major rebuild if it needs it.

Flooding will not stop your car from turning over unless it is so flooded the combustion chamber is completely filled with fuel. Never heard of a car getting THAT flooded, though I suppose it is possible.

Ding Ding Ding...You are a winner!!! I took my starter to AutoZone. I never even bothered to look at it myself. I wrapped it in paper towell and took it straigh their. When they unwrapped it the thing looked fried. When they hooked it up to the machine sparks flew everywhere. It was like the 4th of July. Anyway they said I needed a new one. I agree. So I will prolly order a new Duralast unless anyone knows of a better one?

Update: Got desperate and put everything back together. I'm gonna get a enw starter on Tuesday. Friend came over and wanted to see my car. Tried to start it not expecting anything and BAM! It started! It has been so long since i have driven her so I made a couple of redline passes down the local freeway https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
