This has been bothering me for a long while. I've had spongy brakes for a few weeks now, ever since I disconnected and then reconnected one of the lines from the ABS unit. I've bled the brakes twice already. There's fresh DOT-3 fluid in the master cylinder. The pads have a healthy amount of material on them. I have no idea why it's doing this now. This car has had very firm pedal pressure before. It's firm when the engine isn't running, but it gets all spongy again when the engine is running. Anyone know why this is happening?

I need to correct this before my next track day next Saturday. I'm pretty sure I'll fail tech because of this.

bleed em again...

replacement of my clutch line took more than several full bleeds to clear..

a lot of time squishy brakes means you need to bleed them...did you bleed them the last time you changed the pads??

The brakes were not bled the last time I changed the pads, because the pedal was still firm. The thing that confuses me is that when I was bleeding them, the pedal was real firm, firmer than it used to be. Then, when I started the car, it was spongy and unresponsive. I've been told that it might be the brake booster. Could that be the problem, or would I just need to bleed the brakes again, and again, and so forth?

It is not the booster that only uses air from the motor to give you power brakes. If that failed then they would be harder to push in.

I think you should bleed it again and get someone with muscles on the brake pedal!!!
