Background: drive to work 110 miles a day. Have a Honda CRX for the trip

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif I'd rather change the spark plugs on the CRX every day than the plugs on my 7. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif

Just changed them for the first time and they sucked to get to (even from underneath)!!!!

twinturborx7pete 06-06-2003 10:09 PM

er ok.

djgiantrobot 06-07-2003 01:36 PM

come on! its not THAT bad, i can think off plenty of cars offhand that are 100 times worse (wrx, any V8 car)

ls1 cars are a pain on that #8 plug........my old ford van with the straight 6 was a pita too.....

Joe Flo 06-07-2003 02:14 PM

The Fd is hard https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif I just changed the ones to my friends F150. That was alot harder then the FD

Theirs only 4! The only reason I didn't like changing them on my car was cause I was in a hurry to change them and did it while the engine was hot https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

jspecracer7 06-07-2003 07:05 PM

I can change my spark plugs in about 5 minutes. I don't have a/c or p/s to get the way either though...****, I have a clear shot like a mofo'em

Fd3BOOST 06-07-2003 08:14 PM

I think its easier from underneath.

93 R1 06-07-2003 09:28 PM

Try changing all 24 plugs on a Mercedes V12 one time. Way worse then the 4 we have to do

TYSON 06-07-2003 10:42 PM

Changed the plugs on my V6 Camaro once in 200,000 kms. Changed plugs on my FD 6 times in 1 evening.

FD = Easy https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

TheCamel 06-08-2003 12:38 AM

Try a 1981 Turbo trans am, then call me about a pain in the ass to change plugs on..

DrPJM1 06-08-2003 09:04 AM

"Changed plugs on my FD 6 times in 1 evening. "

Why? Once was not enough?

AgentSpeed 06-08-2003 09:06 AM

I was wondering the same thing

Seppuku 06-08-2003 09:06 AM

probabaly was tuning and fouled a few

AgentSpeed 06-08-2003 09:08 AM

Mine looked pretty bad. I've only has it for about 2 months. The previous owner said Oh yeah I just changed them. Right. I'm wondering what else is a ticking time bomb.

TYSON 06-08-2003 10:09 AM

E11 install. Prime map was dumping 30ms worth of fuel each time we tried to start the car.

GEB 06-09-2003 10:44 PM

Very easy to replace....put up on jack stand and remove left front tire and go in from below....it took me doing it the hard way from above one time to learn my lesson!

i cracked the plug doin it from the top. went from the bottom and had no problems at all.

GoRacer 06-10-2003 12:35 AM

My CRX plugs are hilariously easy. The fuel filter is easy even though I never did it myself. The 7's plugs are easy for the 1st 3 and the 4th takes a little patience. I just got a stage 2 clutch and lightweight (rebuildable) aluminum flywheel for $400+ for the CRX from Clutch Specialties. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Oh if you allready have a DC Sports header and need a new set, you can trade the old ones in and get a shiny new one for just above wholesale. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

rfreeman27 06-10-2003 01:53 AM

I dont see the point of thei thread

crash and burn biotch

FDokinawa 06-10-2003 02:31 AM

Ya... sounds like a thred from the General Discussion forum.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

GEB: why the hell do you go thru all that?? by the time you get your tire off.. i've got mine changed and im driveing around..

All you guys need to do is go buy a ratchet that is about 3 inches long and has a pivioting head.. makes it a lot easier to get to them...

jspecracer7 06-10-2003 04:12 AM

Yep, I have a deep well socket and a small ratchet(appx 3~4 inches in length)....talk about EASY

kkw4p 06-10-2003 08:25 AM

How about a tech question. I've heard platinum plugs are horrible for rotary engines. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

TYSON 06-10-2003 08:56 AM

Deny. BUR9EQP / BUR7EQP are platinum plugs. Listed in the owners manual and service manual. I've found they don't seem to last much longer than the regular plug, so I don't buy them anymore.

Where did you hear this?

GEB 06-10-2003 09:45 AM

FD: I usually rotate my tires when I do my plugs....I also like to put the whole car up on jack stands and wipe down the underside of the engine bay and the body under-pan.....just a weeeeeee bit **** about it I guess https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png !!

I've always used the platinum NGK and I've never heard anything negative about them before....I agree that they're expensive and don't last incredibly long, but that's all my baby's gotten in the 6 years I've owned her....

Its much easier from underneath. You don't have to remove anything even. You can just reach up through the openings in the subframe. From the top it helps if you remove the intake elbow and the piping from the intercooler. On my car I have a fuel pressure regulator in the way so I always do it from the bottom.

rotary speedster 06-11-2003 08:24 PM

For the life of me, I can not figure out why people say changing

the plugs is hard. This coming from someone who never did

anything more than change oil before I bought my FD. I go from

the top. Taking the intake elbow off will make it easier, but I dont

even do that. I just use a regular 3/8th ratchet and a spark plug socket.

Now changing the wires is a little more difficult.
