Hi all Here's my story : I bought a 93 fd a year and a half ago knowing it was low on compression. I took it home and it started handy enough but it sounded like there was no compression. I used a piston compression tester and found it was very low in th rear so i pulled the engine and found it had lost a tip. I rebuilt the engine and now it's back in the car. I dont have the master cylinder hooked up so there for no clutch. The car started nearly first time but reved up to 3 thousand revs and stopped. I found a loose pipe on the air pump which is why it reved up I think ??? now I cant get it to start again. Its just on the verge of starting, when I turn it over it, it smokes at the back box slowly and smells of petrol ( I dont think it's flooded because I injected 10ml of 2stroke oil into the UMI via the boost gauge line port and still no joy ). Alot of condensation has built up round the engine since i tried starting it. Is there a clutch cut of switch on jap models and does this sound like a bad earth ?? if so maybe i've missed one, how many is there and where are they ?? How do ya test a relay ??

That actually does sound like it's flooded. But there is a clutch cutout switch on the clutch pedal itself. If it's bad your car won't crank at all though so I don't think that's your problem.

If it was flooded would injecting oil into the UMI not solve that problem ??

Also my plugs are constantly soaked in oil from the build. Is there too much oil in the housings ???

where are the main ground wires or how many should there be ??

There shouldn't be that much oil in there. Deflood it, then change the plugs and it should burn all of that out of there unless you have an oil seal leaking

Thanks man It's oil from the build because i was extra generous with it when i was doing the build

But because its flooded with a mixture of oil and petrol the spark plugs cant get sparking so by deflooding do you mean removing that fuse and turning the engine ?? what exactly does that fuse do ??

If you really think there is too much oil in there I would crank it with the fuse in, put as much fuel into it as possible, if you wash away oil eventually, then change the plugs, pull the fuse and unflood the fuel.

i think it only stops fuel, it will still spark. Thats what it does on an FC, not sure if its the same for FD's

Yeah, you're supposed to pull the fuse or relay for the fuel pump so you can crank the engine without adding more fuel to the already flooded engine. Use the old plugs to deflood it, then swap in the new ones to start. You may want a battery charger as cranking it to deflood can drain the battery

Thanks for the help boy's I got her running today

She sounds good but there is a random pop in the exhaust and I'm putting that down to a leaky manifold I'll go at that tmw
