ok guys i got a question. can you have a single turbo on a stock motor if you only run 10psi? i know its better to just build the motor but i cant shell out the extra 5k for the motor to get built. and i am going to run only 10psi. This set up will just be for a few months. The reason is because my 2nd turbo is gone and my first is headed that way. Oh and the car only has 60k on it.

any info?

Info on your car as it is now? i.e. mods. If you have the fuel and drivetrain for it, you can run a single turbo past 15 psi with the right tuning. Ernie T was running 10's on a stock motor.

the engine is fine with it, you just have to make sure its not too lean etc

This is something I am planning on doing as well!

I believe that the only other thing that will need to be changed will be the fuel maps. My current setup with the twins is: intake, DP and cat-back and it looks to be dangerously close to running lean on a cold night. With the single I plan to be running 11psi max, which is a safe distance away from 14psi when the stock apex seals tend to pop.

This is something I am very interested in; I hope there is someone here that has done this before and can offer some guidance.

This has been done to hundreds if not thousands of FD's. All you need is the proper fuel/ignition/drivetrain and the right tuner and all is well.

i didnt know stock apex seals could only handle 14 psi....

anywho, im running 10 psi on a t78 with stock reman. the only thing that sucks is that stock ports are only efficient till about 7k, but the turbo wants to keep going.

This is untrue. As I previously stated, ErnieT made HEEPS of power at HIGH boost (for a rotary) on stock MOTOR (that's seals and ports).

only thing porting does is helps out with top end power, and then you lose some low end power. but rotaries are notorious for no low end, so who cares??

You dont loose that much power.

ive seen stock seals take 50lbs of boost with n20 spraying. Its all about the tune.

I am basing my statement, that stock apex seals tend to go at 14psi, on posts from previous topics and from conversations with Pettit Racing and Rx-7Store about a single on a stock motor. With the right tuning, yes, +14psi can be done.
