Anyone have any experience running a standalone EMS in parallel with the factory computer with the standalone having exclusive control of injection, ignition and turbo's (full sequential).

The factory computer having controll of smog systems, A/C and perhaps idle controll?

Anyone know what inputs the factory computer needs to keep running and not throw a CEL?

Thanks,

Colin

Isn't the powerfc for the FD a piggyback system? I would say to just go with a powerfc because the install is easy and there seems to be plenty of capable tuners for that system. You would have to start premixing with that system which could be a problem if you are required emissions testing.

I allready have a haltech which can run the OMP, but I allready premix.

First off why? Any stand alone will operate the idle control. Thats why its called a stand alone. To answer the second poster the PFC is a stand alone unit and NOT a piggy back system.

well depending on what you're trying to do, it could be done and work really well. way way back when we were talking about using a standalone for the seoncdary injectors and ignition, that way the car starts and runs like stock.

but for an FD you can get a power fc and it runs everything

I live in a state with emisions testing, recently cars with illegal mods are getting impounded, mobile emmisions testing units that take a pic of your license plate etc.

I think I made that clear in my original post.

Yes the standalone can controll the idle, an E8 can easily be rigged to controll the idle and turbo's, but there is 6 aditional emmisions functions, enough could probably be rigged with the E8 so as to allow it to pass the emissions tests, but this just seems like it would be better.

The idle controll is of little concern, really all that is of concern is the emmisions.

Did I mention that I have an OEM new engine wiring harness that has now been wrapped with heat tek reflective tape.

i live in CA, where we have to pass smog. so ALL of my cars have passed smog. OUR testing is currently (although they are thinking of switching back) done on a dyno @15 and 25mph.

1. the power fc passes smog. if they SEE the ecu it fails, but it passes out the tailpipe.

2. the CA test is still way different than the EPA testing the cars were originally designed for. a stock 100% functioning 83 rx7 has a real hard time passing smog, because the CA testing is done at the wrong rpms. fd's pass the dyno, but they used to fail the idle test.

3. to pass the emissions test all you need is the air pump, and you need to get it to put air into the EXHAUST PORTS. the engine needs to run near stoic, and you need a converter. thats it.

What state do you live in??

If you are running E8 and installed properly and tuned properly to pass emission, you shouldn't have to stick a stock ECU wired w/Haltec.. That would be NIGHTMARE TO splice things to just to pass emission. If you have OEM NEW harness, why not just plug the stock ecu to pass emission and then plug the E8?? i'm guessing you are running the adaptor kit for OEM harness to E8?? I would think just swapping the ECU would be the easiest solution to your complex re-wiring nightmare..

And what is heat tek reflective tape got to do with anything?? I would think that might get attention of the inspector.
