Recently fd started to run really rich. I get backfire, stupid A/f gauge is always in the last bar of green, and you can smell fuel from exhaust. My buddy told me when i floored it all he can smell is a lot of fuel.



I also get very bad gas milage. On one of my other threads, i've been trying to figure out, why is it cutting out and breaking apart at 4k and up. And that is always over 8psi. 7psi runs perfect, Rich, but perfect.



What i have done so far is, changed plugs and wires (they have around 2k on them. Changed fuel filter, Checked all vacuum hoses, check valves, leaks, etc. I cleaned my apexi filters as well, replaced oil and oil filter.

Problem still remains.



Somehow i thought it might be turbo related but, i'm afraid if i change them it will do the same thing. They boosted fine and i had no break ups, and then all of a sudden it started. It's been like this for over 2 months now. Didn't have much time to play around with it until now.



My mods are, Dp, new hi-flo cat, new catback, PFS ecu (I tried leaning it out, but it runs even worse), Apexi Intakes, Sillicone Vacuum hoses, Profec B, magnacore 10mm wires etc.



Please if anybody had similar problem, let me know what it might be so i can change it or at least check it.

Ok i am having the exact same problem... In all the time i have spent with the Fd this has been the most difficult because the problem cannot be pin pointed... I have no idea what is wrong with the car but it is the exact same problem u r having.. don't change the turbos it will not solve the problem... I switched to a single turbo setup still had the same problem...nothing more than 7 psi...



Lets both hope someone here can help us both out.. else bye bye Fd.. Man my fd and I have a love hate relationship... I love it and it hates me...

This guys problem is very similar to ours and it turned out to be a faulty water temp sensor... i have been trying to locate where the water temp sensor is.. can someone point out...

I don't see how water temp sensor might cause all this crap.

the car runs rich when cold, leaner when hot, if the water temp sensors bad it will go crazy rich (flood the car while its running rich) or it wont inject gas at all, its important!

the ecu will look at the water temp sensor to establish which fuel map to use. if the coolant is reading 25c it will need more fuel than if it read 95c becuase the ecu thinks the engine is cold. if it is reading -35c you can bet it will give a big fuel enrichment. cts is very important on speed density cars. obdII cars will trip a code if the sensor does not reach what it belives to be normal operating temps in a given time. it is located on the back of the water pump housing just below the filler cap. there is also a water temp sensor by the oil filter but i belive it is for the gague.

Well that stupid stock gauge shows always just a tad below half. I got aftermarket gauge and that one moves between 180 and 205, at that point i kick in my fans.



How do you check that sensor and is it in front or back of the water filler neck?

it's in the back the front is a level sensor. you will have to ohm it and the specs are ~68f (20c) = 2.2 - 2.7 k ohms and at 176(80c) .29-.35k ohms. boil some water with a thermometer in it and see what the sensor says when you put in in the water.

I believe the FD has 2 water temp sensors. 1 for the gauge and 1 for the computer. So your gauge reading won't matter if the other sensor is fucked up.

yea the sensor for the gague is by the oil filter. ecu is right by the thermo temp switch for the fans
