All right....I must admit.....This is an awesome site. Have spent hours reading the porting section, and I have to tell you that if the Seven doesn't sell by this winter it is coming apart and the next phase will begin.

Now, as for the topic at hand, please answer me this guys:

93 FD with HKS mild steel downpipe and Apex'i N1 dual catback. Only other mods are reliability and clutch/pressure plate/flywheel. Silicone hoses have been done. Car runs 13.4 at 107. 51K miles. Boost pattern is 10.5 to 11 on primary, 8 pounds on transition, spike to 11 or 12 on changeover, and then 9 psi from there on out. What am I seeing here guys? Should this thing be holding the 10.5 or 11 after the secondary kicks in? Just wondering if there is a wee bit more to be had Laddie.........

THIRDGEN 08-21-2003 02:11 PM

Come on guys, any feedback here?

papasmurf 08-21-2003 02:16 PM

mine does the same as yours with the seq setup. there probablly is more to be had but it is somewhat minimal. i like the idea of the non seq in the fact it eliminaes the rats nest and has no change over. just straight boost all the way, which would be seemingly better for you or me seeing that my car doesnt build 10psi second stage untill about 7k+.

THIRDGEN 08-22-2003 10:56 PM

Thanks for the reply......Sequentials would be nice, but I am thinking that if my car doesn't sell before winter I will take it down and beef up the motor, as well as do a street port. Would still like to do a couple of small ball bearing turbos to keep boost down low (I autocross the car)...........We shall see.......But thanks again.......Everything sounds kosher?

papasmurf 08-22-2003 11:02 PM

streetport seems to be the way to go. cant complain much (anymore) about mine after getting the little things fixed and all...

im still going to do non seq conversion on my car to see if i can hit near 15+ psi. im doing around 12-13 now, when my car isnt broken that is... stock stuff sucks!!

THIRDGEN 08-23-2003 10:46 PM

I didn't think that non-sequentials would get you any more psi, just eliminate the transition, and all of the crap under the intake. It is always nice to look at a first gen and be able to see the housings! Going up to Elkhart Lake tomorrow to watch the ALMS cars run, andas a bonus they are having some kind of Mazda Exteme Street event in conjunction with the race. Will take some pics........

chase78 08-23-2003 11:11 PM

For more turbo options with the stock set up go to rx-7store.net

they have BNR upgraded turbos that are nice. It like getting the later 1990`s turbo from japan and a little more. As far a boost your number are fine. Stock set up is in fact very impresive as far as turbo set go. The next set up would be porsche 911 turbo set ups. If you want quick safe and easy HP NOW try upgrading your intercooler . You can go all out with a front mounted or you can go PEter ferrel what ever floats you boat.

papasmurf 08-23-2003 11:12 PM

not bad, have fun man. i may be up at union grove tomorrow at the import shootout. theres a lot of sevens i know going up there too.

THIRDGEN 08-24-2003 09:57 PM

chase78 - thanks for the note.......Had thought about J-spec turbos, but figured I could do better from the aftermarket.....Most people seem to go single, but most of the cars have been built for low E.T. or top end numbers. I have seen a Supra go single and run autocross, but he is running the car in Street Mod (allowed to use electronics to control the boost). Car is like 650 RWHP, and the guy knows how to drive. Actually, he is a national champ, as is his wife who drives a Gran Sport.

papasmurf......Was going to Great Lakes, but came across the Mazda meet at the ALMS race at Road America and decided to go. Last time I was at the Import Drags most of the cars were SLOW! Had one Second gen 7 running low 11's or 10's, but that was about it. Turn out at Road America was pretty good.........Three CYM's, a couple of built FD's with brakes and FMIC's, but no nasty single turbo cars. One of the CYM's was a 34K original, unmolested beauty. Guy just sold it for 24K. Going to look at the blown up CYM this weekend (the one on the forum for sale). If the car is nice I may buy it and build, build, build!

chase78 08-25-2003 12:56 AM

Your set up should reflect the way you use the car.

If you dragging or doing lots of launching a single turbo set with a mid size of NO2 at the lower rpms is what you want, note go with Garret Turbos they are the Best.

If you like the more road stuff stay with the twins

THIRDGEN 08-26-2003 11:11 PM

Always liked twins! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png Now the kicker is my 7 may be sold, and the CYM I was gonna check out is gone too! Sounds like I am gonna be in the market for a good rolling chassis soon!

papasmurf 08-27-2003 01:15 AM

damm those low mileage fd's.... o well good to hear yours may be sold! more projects are always nice.. but two at once is a pain!

you can find blown ones for like 4-8k easily, just make sure the body is good (or missing bumpers etc etc so you can do 99conversion or something on it...)

mine is still for sale, and always will be..

Why are you selling an FD only to buy another? Why not just rebuild the one you have? (I got the impression that you have an FD for sale).

And Papasmurf:

That is my plan exactly. I am hoping to spend somewhere around $5-7k for a nice, but blown, FD to rebuild by spring. Know of any? Is yours F/S Blown? Or, rather, do you know where to look? I've checked cars.com/autotrader/thepartstrader/rx7club/ and here and only know of a handfull if that...

THIRDGEN 08-27-2003 05:48 PM

PhoenixDownVII - yes, I have a VR '93 that is in great shape......Had a kid interested in it for $18K, but he called today and cannot afford the payments. Kinda glad in a way as I was a bit worried about him wadding the car and himself. Have wanted a CYM since they were new, and could have picked up a roller for $9.5K. That would have left me $8.5K to do a reman, street port, upgraded twins, yadda, yadda, yadda..........I am at the point with mine of going big.........Big money that is......rims, coil-overs, ECU, street port, new seals and gaskets.......Make everything tight and right and get as far under a 13.4 et as possible!

Papasmurf.......That CYM had around 72K on it. Have asked for pics and condition just to really twist the knife, but it is gone and mine is still here.........Time will tell what will happen!

papasmurf 08-27-2003 07:44 PM

u can find blown sevens everywhere!! i can contact this place by me "sound performance" and find out where they get their blown sevens from. the one i have for sale is in great working order (about 6k on new large streetport) also try and contact mazdarecyclery.com or something like that, they have MANY blown/ crashed sevens and im sure they may share with you how they get them.. also about 2 weeks ago on ebay i saw a black one that was a non finished project, went cheap as hell too.

i dont know what im going to buy after my seven is gone, i will miss it sence ive put so much into it. possibly buy a blown seven and do something interesting to it...
