Hey everyone,

I'm looking at purchasing a 93 RX7 with about 20K on it unmodified. I've done some research online about reliability modifications and I will perform all of them to help the engine out. Now looking at some of the vendors online, I'd like to get the output up to 300HP which doesn't seem that hard or expensive to do. My question however is will the car/engine hold up to 300HP? I won't be driving the car daily, just on Friday night and the weekends. Yes it will be ran on the street not real agressively but no track or dragstrip work. Just street. I will be adding a new clutch also when I do the upgrades. I don't want to purchase it and then have the engine blow up on me at 300HP is what I'm worried about.

Thank you,

Lance

At 20k you should be good to go for a while.

LOL...you can get 450 rwhp reliable, daily driven. If your going to only drive it on the weekends, you can get an EASY 500 rwhp range...and that's WITH drag racing.

with 300hp in your future, you will only be dusting the tip of the shelf of this car's capabilities. just love it and respect it......

Ok, since the thread is about RELIABILITY.....

No, you can't get 300rwhp reliably.... WITHOUT AN ECU.

I wouldn't recommend modding until you :

Do a compression check

Change all fluids

Replace AST

Replace (or at least test) radiator

Change spark plugs

Do the fan mod

Take driving school (if you've never been behind the wheel of anything but a Civic)

Then, you can do a few mods (Intake Downpipe Exhaust) and get an ECU.

And then of course, you could always get an Intercooler, go Non-seq, put in Mid pipe and kill just about everything on the road....

Have fun. Be careful. Don't come back in 3 weeks with pics of a totalled FD because you were an idiot.

Oops... Do the compression BEFORE buying the car... Sorry

honestly guys, i have run my car for all of its life 141,000 miles w/o an ecu. it really IS ok, but for most, who have a heavy foot and a need for higher than stock boost, it WILL be an issue. i really would recommend getting an ecu, just search them all carefully.

i haven't gotten one, well, because i am lazy, but know how to drive the car w/o the ecu. i run 11psi on a straight exhaust and street port w/no emissions.....non sequential....

easy 300!!!!

Go to R&T Racing My friend has two cars for sale that I think is something like what you looking for.

300 is no problem, whether it's a 'weekend warrior' or your daily driver.

9base3 has a nice list there of what to do when you get the car.

here are some good sites to check out for how-to's and faq:

Very true. However.. Most people don't know how to limit boost spikes, or keep the boost turned down. They get the car and want to outrun everything on the road...

I know several people with mods and no ECU... But I'd recommend that for a more experienced tuner.

You da' man though Louis! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
