Mother...F*kin...adfadfhkl;jadl;fkl;.......... been in the garage trying to make some damn ducting. I'm pissed off. someone please post pics if there is anything in existance that will duct air into an upright radiator with a greddy fmic infront of it.

thank

Doesn't Vosko have the Greddy FMIC?You should try getting him to post some pics of it if he has any.

you are in luck. i tried a methos of this, and through trial and error, error, and error, did i mention error? i got it to work. here is a pic of the duct that i made. at first, it ran the length of the radiator, and was cut out so that it could feed the radiator, it wwas attached primarily to the non-oil cooler duct on my knightsports front end. SCREWS in the fiberglass i might add. i also used a plastic gutter drain square and attached the hose to it. you will see what i am talking about.

1. i left the belly pan off. not a good idea once i go the ac condenser back in. it started to get warm.

2. i realized that the thing was blocking air to the radiator, even though i tsupplied its own air.

3. sooo, i cut it off, and, whild still leaving it attached to the front end, attached it to the tow support by zip-ties and all is well now.

i could go one about my issues with the ducting, but i think that you can get the idea....

r_xplicit 02-01-2003 07:49 PM

here is the pic that shows my $30 piece of pipe [very heavy duty] blocking the air to the rad.

r_xplicit 02-01-2003 07:52 PM

and finally, you can see, in the last pic, the non-obtrusive extra ducting that i added. i spent a good bit on the hose, but you can't kill that ****. it is commercial grade flex-xhaust hose....

looks like it runs to the pass side bumper hole. how did you secure it? what temps are you running w/o fans ?

r xplicit has a touring....

his method will not work with an r1 due to the additional oil cooler...

btw...u seem to have some damage to your passenger fender...r xplicit..

care to discuss what happened...

r_xplicit 02-01-2003 09:28 PM

well, the wheels are a little wide up front. they caught the fender once, and again whil eleaving the shop, and one thing led to another. also, it looks weird, but it is not flared like it looks, because i have the front end zip tied in that pic to the bolts. it is a knock-off knightsports/PFsupercar front like rikki has, but has seen a lot worse....currently, it is only hanging on but the upper four bolts. the fiberglass bolt "tabs" are very flimsy on these aftermarket fronts, and i am a prime example....

i have loved my car uncondiitonally, and still this....that is why i just got 2, count em, 2 front ends in. i am going to have them painted at the same time, and keep one for a rainy day....

F it. I just forced the original undertray into place and cut off the pieces that were touching. Seems to work well https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

r_xplicit 02-02-2003 02:34 PM

and that's also what i did...

1Revvin7 02-02-2003 04:46 PM

i like the ducting trick, so what kind of difference did you see with it?

rx7trix 02-02-2003 04:52 PM

Well I dont run up to 94C now. I still have to cut away some more of the inner duct but other than that it works great.

I love zip ties https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png :bigok:

Did you ever get the belly pan back on?

Ben93rx7 02-03-2003 11:34 AM

I was going to say.... just stick a flat piece of sheet metal up there to make sure that the air goes through the radiator instead of under the car..... Has anyone else done this??? I dont have my stock one anymore (got demolished in the wreck)

I was thinkin something like this (jt-imports sells this for the j-spec from mazdaspeed)

rx7trix 02-03-2003 02:10 PM

I tried w/ sheet metal.. I got pissed off and modified the stock duct

r_xplicit 02-03-2003 02:59 PM

here is what is cool. the duct actually really works. you can blow in there and feel the air run to the radiator. i can not tell you any cooler numbers because i do not log them like i did for the intercooler survey.

fd3, yes i put the belly pan back on, but going into this winter, it got so brittle, it cracked alot and was too difficult to keep on. i am now in the shop at night making a custom one out of fiberglass and will post pics as soon as i get it done. it will be similar to an aftermaket undersweep that i have seen. i also have made provisions for an angled duct that comes upwards and boxes the bottom of the radiator in.....

hopefully it will work as i have invisioned...
