Hey guys, I have a blown rear apex seal so its time to take out the engine. I have never pulled a rotary before and I was wondering if there is anything specific I should keep and eye out for. Also are there any suggestions for mods that i should do while the engine is out. I have about 4k to spend. Thanks

Clean the engine bay and work on any bad electronic components and wiring before they become a issue with the new motor in it. Electrical is the heart of the car, make sure you do a good checkup on everything and replace the damaged peices before installing another motor and searching for problems down the road!

You could also get the engine bay repainted which would be very cool

I'd pull it without the transmission. Makes it alot easier to manuever. The clutch is a push type. You have to disengage it from the inspection panel under the bell housing.

fd clutch is a pull type,

get a roll of masking tape, and a sharpie, label as much as you can, including bolts, hoses , connectors, etc.

I stand corrected.

However, you have to physically push the ring collar in towards the engine to disengage it. Which is why I called it a push type. I guess Mazda calls it "pull type". I suppose my idea of how to name it and Mazdas are two different things.

All I was talking about is seperating the two.

The clutch collar can be a bitch. Unbolt the slave cylindar (2 12MM bolts) above the starter and pull it out. Be sure not to hit the clutch though, you will screw up the slave cylindar. With the slave out it should be much easier to push the ring towards the motor.

Its really no different then anything else. Just take your time and be maticulous.
