I know it's not a lot of dinero when compared to other mods but since I have to do my belts anyway and I don't use my airpump anymore are they worth it?
|
it really wont add too much power (maybe 5-10 hp) but if u dont use the air pump, why not just buy them along with a shorter belt so you can disconnect the air pump alltogether (if u haven't). then it wont be just a worthless piece that still gets powered by the belt.
|
It's a good idea to get a pulley kit when you remove the airpump, the stock water pump pulley is too small to make safe contact with the belt. If you look at how the belt runs w/o the air pump it is easy to see how it has the possibility to slip and prevent the water pump from turning.. very bad.

Since I don't have a/c or p/s, what's the use of having pulley's? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif |
dynoed 6 additional rwhp with the indigo full kit...
but there were other factors during the session... high temps bein one of them...with power steering.. insignificant gain to most but hp is hp |
i have the greddy pulley kit because it came with my T78 kit https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
6rwhp for $400+ is not a good investment for me https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif |

woops. i said that confusingly. the greddy pulley kit is VERY good and you need it!
the big pulley kit is unnecessary. sorry meant to clear that up before but i forgot https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png |
yup...i spent $400 bucks on my unorthodox pulley kit. didn't do much for me here
|
actually, i don't think it did anything really
|
I am not a fan of the full pulley kits either, you get very little for the money you put into it. That and I tend to shy away from crank/eccentric shaft main pulleys, I know there is a LOT of disagreement on this issue and not just on this forum. Personally, removing something that was factory designed to act as a harmonic dampener is not a good idea, and certainly not worth the risk involved vs. HP gain. My .02

The greddy 2 pulleyt kit works well. The main advantages are that it eliminates the airpump while providing sufficient water pump belt contact, and slows down the waterpump to prevent cavitation at high rpm.
|
so bottom line what everyone is saying:
good investment : pulley to eliminate air pump not-so-good investment: the other pulleys |
|
when I was at sema last year I was checking out the unorthodox pulley kit and talking to one of the reps and he was telling me the they pulled like 23 or 27 hp out of their 3 piece pulley kit. I cant really remember exactally but It was an impressive #
|
Of course a product rep is going to tell you some rediculous increase from pull kit. You can remove your belts entirely and you won't even gain 26hp (for the minute before you overheat and meltdown).
On a similar topic... how much does removing your air pump help? I know a lot of folks do it to make room for modifications like single turbos but does it really add a ton of power? |
