I've been considering using Protek R in my fuel to improve engine life. What's the consensus on this stuff? Is it worth while? Should I just use 2 stroke oil or nothing at all?

99% of all addititives on the market are totally useless crap so I'm always a bit skeptical. But maybe a rotary really benefits from this stuff...

Thanks,

Marvel Mystery Oil. Good stuff.

I prefer to use something that's readily available like MMO. Can be found at Autozone.

I dont have my oil pump pumpin oil in my motor and i would just premix 6oz of 2 stroke with Mavel Mystry Oil https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png Good ****..

I use Protek R in mine as of now. If I switched I would stay with something that was meant to be burnt, i.e. a high-end two stroke oil. I have only skimmed the topic but it would be pretty sweet with a car that smelled like castor oil. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I use the Maxima 927 in my jetskis and it's great stuff.

Does the Marvel Mystery Oil have an application on the bottle that includes being burnt as an additive.

Hmm. The oil you premix is having to go thru the injectors as well as the fuel.

Some castor oils are pretty viscose and I wouldnt be trying to run them thru my fuel system.

On the 125-250 GP bikes we used to run Castrol TTS and Shell advance. The TTS is fully synthetic and designed to run thru OIL injectors as well as premix. It has a low ash deposit also as its designed to be burnt. Smells feckin good to, almost as good as castor but not quite.

Also by premixing oil to your fuel you are leaning out the fuel mixture. I guess the ratio of oil you guys are adding is pretty small compared to normal 2 stroke applications (generally 30-50:1) But its still a leaner mixture than stock.

btw, adding some high quality oil to the fuel does seem to have merit.

Ive been talking to a mate who works for Castrol in Thailand. He has tested 2cycle oils in scooters on the bench at 500:1 ratios, and they keep going for quite a while! suggesting even a small amount of oil is of benefit, providing your air/fuel mixture is right.

Personally though, I run my FD a tad on the rich side to be safe rather than piss about adding oil to the fueltank.

Hmm. I do think I may have seen something about not applicable to oil injected engines; not sure on the fuel injector compatibility deal. Either way, there are several others I have used with much success although they don't smell nearly as nice. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Perhaps some Super M. I like Maxima oils. Word.
