i installed a pfc today on my fd. after letting it idle for 10-15 minutes, i took it for a little spin and it felt great. then i parked it and left it on to idle a while more. when i checked on it, the coolant was steaming out of the hood and there was a POOL of coolant on the ground. wtf happened and should my car be alright? btw, when i first turned it on, the water temp was 42 celcius and after i drove it, it was at 99 deg C. wtf is going on? i'm pretty sure i clipped the right wires too.

I'm still a PFC novice but I don't think it was the PFC...can you see where the coolant is coming from?

99 degrees C isn't that bad....

ThirdGenRX7 05-01-2003 07:11 PM

I'm pretty sure you should be alright at 99... sounds like a hose came off or something like that

rxtacy 05-01-2003 07:13 PM

i haven't found where it came from yet. i guess i should just check all of the hoses then.

rxtacy 05-01-2003 07:23 PM

couldn't find exactly where the coolant came out but when i put some more coolant/water in and started it, then turned it off after like 15 seconds, the radiator cap was under a lot of pressure again. the temp went back up to the 90s again after sinkink to 74. that seemed like it rose too quick. what is a normal water temp at idle on a warm engine and what temp is too high?

turbovr6 05-01-2003 07:55 PM

99c is perfectly normal https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Check your Air Separator Tank! (Plastic piece of crap)

Other than that 99 is fine. 100 is where the fans kick in.

Mine runs at around 95 (sometimes down to 89) while driving 98 at idle..I live in houston though.

If it gets over like 110 at idle start worrying. But if you just started the car warm and it's 110 it's fine and should drop quick.

rxtacy 05-01-2003 08:23 PM

i already have an aluminum ast

LannyRX7 05-01-2003 08:24 PM

Oh.. I guess I feel dumb now.

is the leak more towards the front of the engine bay...or the back?

rxtacy 05-01-2003 08:38 PM

front

rxtacy 05-01-2003 09:43 PM

ok, so i think i know where it was coming from. i think it was just under a lot of pressure and it forced its way out of the radiator cap. that would mean that it's overfilled but i hadn't added any and it was fine before the install. it has to be a problem with either the water pump or temp sensors then right? it just seems so weird that it goes from 84 deg to 114 during an idle for 5 min.

JimmyJimboJet 05-01-2003 10:01 PM

i typically see 84-86 at crusing on the highway. my peak was 102 after running the quarter mile.

7racer 05-02-2003 02:11 AM

I think I know what your problem is....the radiator cap seal is bad. I couldn't figure out my problem for awhile until it started leaking more and more...it could be that the cap is bad and that the system can't stay pressurized causing your coolant to boil....

try to change to a new cap...its a pretty cheap test...otherwise check the main hose to the radiator and your overflow tank

similar thing happened to me.

i just got my car back drove it around and parked it at home only to see smoak

billowing outta my engine bay. And made a puddle under the front of the car.

My upper radator hose had sprung a leak. and was shooting coolant out that

was under pressure.

i ordered the part and replaced it, runs fine now

after you check the radiator cap

cheak all your hoses by squesing them

i could not even see the hole in mine. i had to run pressure though it and

watch the coolant squirt.

hope that helps

thanks for the advice. also, when i'm parked and at idle, my speedometer reads 20mph. what caused this?

LannyRX7 05-02-2003 08:49 AM

That's a little wierd.... does it say that your moving on the PFC where the speed monitor is?

If not, it's probably the gauge.
