Well, it's finally taking a **** on me.. I have to turn the ******* radio off and on like 5 times before it finally retracts/ Sometimes it just stays at the top and buzzes. Facker. Anyway, how much does a new one cost? Or what's a good alternative?

turbovr6 09-05-2002 10:26 AM

new is prob, around $200, I'm sure you can find one used. You can allways go with a universal one , but then you'll have to figure out all the wires to have it operate correctly

phinsup 09-05-2002 10:30 AM

They are pretty gay, 4 RX-7's and I have never had a power antenna that works. I just go to the local auto parts store and buy a either a rubber one or a manual one. The manual one looks just like stock, just doesn't go up and down.

j9fd3s 09-05-2002 10:34 AM

you can buy the mast, its only like $40, or you can take it out completely, there is an antenna in the rear hatch glass that works just fine https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Hmmm... Sweet!

Fd3BOOST 09-06-2002 08:42 AM

I replaced mine last year.

$50 at www.mazdarecycling.com

It took them 4 times to send me one that wasn't broken but eventually they got it right.

Ben93rx7 09-06-2002 12:42 PM

Ever thought bout a little antenna like the one on the Honda S2000???? I thought bout gettin somethign like that if mine ever broke. Great reception, but sleek and not too noticable.

Sounds like that might be kinda cool....

isamu 09-07-2002 11:28 PM

I just ordered a black plastic one for my FC through Victoria British. It was like 15 bucks or something.

vosko 09-07-2002 11:38 PM

mine is like that one just extends longer

Orochinoyamato 06-29-2003 10:15 AM

Mine won't retract at all--if I just ignore it and take it through a car wash like that, will it snap off and do body damage?

FikseRxSeven 06-29-2003 10:28 AM

when mine goes up it has a squeeking sound, and when it goes down it makes the squeeking sound and when it gets fully retracted it makes a loud buzzing sound...... i have seen these retractable antennas on e bay for around 40 bucks a while ago

Its not.....When I went to a Club Meeting over here all the guys made fun on it. I never paid much attention to it but it looks pretty ghey compared to the stock one. Best bet is prolly buying one of those $40 ones on ebay.

BTW: Mine looke like the one in the picture https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

BoOsTin FD 06-29-2003 02:48 PM

I unhooked mine because it was pissing me off with that noise when it retracts. Just pull the plug out and leave it like that. Radio works the same and everything else.

rx7machine 06-30-2003 01:00 AM

I had to get a new antena for my FD too..

DrPJM1 06-30-2003 07:32 AM

Mine has worked through all these years: keep it clean & oiled for smoother operation.

Yup, that's what I did. Just go in the rear hatch in the compartment where the jack is stored. Reach your arm back towards the tail lights and you'll feel the plug. I always crank CDs anyway--all the radio stations play is **** in my area.

Danno 06-30-2003 01:52 PM

If you are having the squeaking sounds then you need to lubricate it. I had mine replaced and the guy said it needs to be lubed up sometimes. It makes it last longer. I don't know a price of a new one because he replaced it the day i bought my FD.

I would have done that (Back when the FD actually RAN!) But I reallized that the radio in my car has only ONE antenna jack. I guess I could hook up the plug for the other one to the radio and see if it works... but I'm more concerned about getting this slut running again! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Orochinoyamato 06-30-2003 02:53 PM

But, if it's stuck in the up position, instead of down--is there an easy way to get it back down?

Baldy 06-30-2003 03:01 PM

I don't know if I should venture my FC nose up in your FD business, but I replaced mine with one I got from Best Buy, a universal kind. I'm not sure how different the FD antenna is from the FC one, but the universal one was pretty much exactly like my antenna. Unless someone had already had it replaced once before...hhmmm....Anyways, it was like $50, and we just had to drill a hole slightly larger (on the mounting bracket or something...it's been awile) to make it fit perfect. But it goes up when the car is turned to on, and I have to wait for it to go down before I can turn the key all the way off https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif .

oh...and I'm not supposed to lube it, and if it loses power in the up position, the package said I can just push it down without damage.

You can force it down... But be careful. Does it TRY to go down? Like can you hear the motor, or is it fully dead?

Orochinoyamato 06-30-2003 03:28 PM

Beyond fully dead. The last segment slides freely, although the others are stiff, and you'll notice how everyone else still gets good radio reception without it? I don't even get radio reception. None. Pure static on every channel.

Do you still retain the stock radio?

Orochinoyamato 06-30-2003 06:41 PM

I still have it, but new one's installed right now.

Look behind the radio. You can access the wires thru the passenger side kickpanel (not the ECU side but the other... You should be able to find 2 (TWO) antenna connectors. THe one hooked up is obviously the antenna that's dead) try switching them..

Orochinoyamato 06-30-2003 09:06 PM

w00t! So the stock radio hooks up to both at once but the one in there now isn't so versatile, thanks https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Now, if only I could get my window up so my working radio doesn't get stolen...

9BASE3 06-30-2003 11:01 PM

LOL... I know NOTHING aboot windows!

RotaryRevolution 07-02-2003 09:17 PM

mine doesnt even move, its stuck 6 in out and makes a buzzing and gringing sound if i turn the radio on...

wraith 07-05-2003 08:21 PM

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif decided to try out the new car wash today....well didn't turn off the radio and when i came through the other side....the attena was bent in half..... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

Orochinoyamato 07-05-2003 09:29 PM

Oh! Well, I guess that answers my question on whether my non-retracting antenna would break in a car wash. Thanks for testing that out for me https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif
