Since there's been so much talk on mid-pipes and creep/spike, AND I am getting creep from my mid-pipe I figured I would ask the question.
Is it better to get a pop-off valve or port your wastegate? I figure a pop-off valve is kind of like a secondary safety net because it really dosen't solve the problem. Your turbos are still spooling (x) boost but only (y) boost is getting to the intake manifold right? So isn't it bad to have the stock turbos working that hard all the time? Where as if you port the wastegate and you set say10lbs of boost they only work for that 10lbs. Not like the pop-off solution where they work for 15lbs but only 10lbs get there. Am I getting this right? If I am does it really make a difference? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif |
Just an update. The guys at Mazdatrix say to just get a bigger pill for the "short wastegate hose". They said to get a .0067 pill. They think its the 67 holley jet. they said it will limit you to 10-12lbs of boost. Nice six dollar solution if it works.

I just received my pop off valve, as soon as my V-mount comes in I will have it welded. It should take care of any creep issues.
get the jet from holley. less money, and you are not cooking your turbos to death. also, porting the wastegate is free, if you can take the turbos off yourself.....
Free? I can take the turbos off but I don't have the tools or know-how to port.
there are sites and i am sure that there are a few people around here that are close enough to you so that you could ge tsome help....
I can set you up with the know how.
All you need to port is the bits. http://www.eastwoodco.com/aspfiles/search.asp Once you get that and you disassemble the turbos. You trace a 1/16" line on the inside ofthe wastegaet hole and cut out the material. Thats about it. |
Whoops, search "carbide bur" when you get there.
would it be possible to hold the door/flapper closed, and trace the outline of the door, then make sure you stay away from the door 1/16th of an inch?
Yea thats what you do. Trace the door then draw a line to the inside 1/16 of an ince then cut away.
