Alright so my FD came with a PFS SMIC, as well as a blown motor and missing parts for the twins setup. So I went ahead and got a new complete T04R setup, 850/1600cc injectors and rails, and fpr, and walbro, and pfc and datalogit, and rebuilt streetported motor, and some other small things.

Question now is....will the PFS SMIC still work efficiently? I figure on running 13-ish psi, not aiming for huge numbers but i figure 400hp is reasonable form the setup.

Should i ditch the PFS SMIC and get a nice FMIC or will the SMIC holdup?

the smic will work with 13psi..

the question is.. is that pressure efficient enough for a turbo like T04R...

if the pfc smic is clean... may take it off your hands should ya decide to part...

I also don't think you'll have problem running 13psi with it to make 400... especially with T04R.

In my opinion, the FMIC would be the way to go- efficiency is king and although you will have more piping for the front mount, the SM cannot cool the way you will want it to. We sell them both and many more builders go with the FMIC for just this reason. I happen to have 3 nice precision FMIC's in stock if you need one. Good luck-

FMIC is great! If you could divert some air to the rad. I'm working on that with my Blk FD... but most fmic'd FDs I've seen have cooling issues..

400HP daily FD, I would just stick with your PFS smic. I had one of those in 00 and I thought it did its job. Never really had any problems with stock twins... which will create more heat than your T04R... but I also didn't make 400HP.. maybe low 300s.

yea i didnt mean to write 13psi, lol that was the original plan for bnr twins, still havent decided on the boost for the t04r yet.

amp: depends on what you mean clean... it's like a beige color so i think its been repainted, and the black fiberglass duct has some dremel marks or something.... could definitely be cleaned up real nice the core itself is in great looking condition.. how much?

qwester: what kind of pricing is your FMIC setup?

I think im just going to go FMIC and be done with it, i personally like an empty engine bay like on my s5 t2 so it makes more sense to me, and personally i like how they fill up the bumper rather then such an opening. itll give me a chance to build some ducting too while im in there.

thanks again

kev: the stock mount is big enough for a mild setup, they work nicely on the fd, cause the ic isnt in front of the radiator.

herb: my buddy's actually got an fd with a front mount, and the coolant temps stay ok, its an apex ic (which lets more air pass thru to the rad) and a oem 99 fd radiator (lots of fins per inch) with an apexi single (the bigger one, not the rx6). biggest difference was removing the twins

herblenny 01-04-2007 03:46 PM

I had greddy 2 row with both MS rad and fluidyne rad.. oh also stock.. Both cause my engine to over heat. I did have Apexi fmic but ended up selling it... It does have bigger fins and might let more air thru... but I think if you go FMIC, you need some sort of ducting to the rad..

yeah its tough. good sealing at the radiator helps too. this just seems to be something there itnst a cure for...

If I were in your shoes Kevin I would go ahead and step up. Why have a to4r and fool with the smaller ic. Yea it will work but it won't cool as well as the bigger jonta.

Maybe I'm outta the loop a bit but when did you get a 3rd gen?
