I had a water pump problem recently and having the housing off I did some extra things like replacing all of the small hoses that are hard to get to. I also bought the $50 185F deg fan thermoswitch from Pettit racing. I've seen some posts where some have used a 2nd gen switch but I think that Pettit one comes on at an even lower temp. My fans come on much more often now - at $50 not expensive, seems well worth doing. Guess the big thing is getting to it. But, if you have a water pump issue arise, maybe cooler thermoswitch replacement should be considered standard practice.

If you are on a stock ECU, yes this is a basic upgrade.. The Apexi PFC allows you to change fan settings with a datalogit.

There seems to be three levels of fan switch available. The stock FD thermoswitch activated fans at 108 C (224 F.). The series 5 FC thermoswitch, an exact "plug and play" activates at 95 C. (204 C.) Then you have the Pettit switch. At 185 F. and a t-stat that opens at about the same time, that will have the fans running nearly all the time. That might be the best option in a warm climate. But here in the Midwest, with cool weather in spring and fall, and cool mornings and evenings...I prefer to stay with the FC switch.
I agree with Crimson though, replacing the stock switch should be considered standard practice. |
Good info!

I put an FC thermoswitch in mine as a basic upgrade at the same time I did my engine swap. Signal 2 recommended it. Glad I did. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

Speaking of cooler climates Nat, heard you got some white stuff where you live. It's sure been a long winter up here. |
Hi guy! Well, have had a few spells here of the falling white stuff. Was pretty! Didn`t get out in it, as adding myself to the insurance companies "fender bender" list wasn`t my desire! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif Stayed cold for quite a few days & payed for it through the nose when the utility bill came in!https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif I like snow but I am more partial to the warmer weather as my toes don`t like being cold all the time! Hehehe! Looking forward to Spring so I can start my garden again! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif
