I've had my car for a while now but for the first time, I'm planning on doing some lessons and possibly some open events near my home (Mid-America Motorplex). Probably only one or two a season.
I've just about finished up all the obvious prep work for this...larger rad, power-slot rotors, some decent pads, a good BC, etc. I'm already experiencing a little oil in the intake and concerned that it might get worse, especially since there is one rather long hard flat right-hander at MAM. I don't feel like pulling my IC after each each event just to clean it out and considering an Oil Catch Can. I was hoping for some input from some of you who track regularly. Is this worthwhile and if so, do you have any recommendations on brand/manufacturer and/or mounting? I did a search but didn't find much. Thanks, Jim |
I don't track much Jim, at least not on a real "track" anyway. Here is the trick, I use a beer bottle. I've been using it for over a year and It works well, never had any problems with it sliding around or anything. I empty it out once a week or so. Cost me $7.99 for the six pack and the hose I had lying around. You can pay for a nice shiney one i suppose but why bother when a beer bottle or can delivers the exact same result, well you don't get to catch a buzz off the shiney metal one.

Nice and functional, good idea. At first glance it looked like an old stubby beer bottle, then I noticed the 12 oz. label. My grandpa started collecting them years and years ago, I had my visa card out ready to buy some old stubbies! |
I used a Molson Canadian Tall boy for a while, then I decided to hook it back up like stock.

Glass bottle huh?

^Thanks Russell.

I have the jazz mini pint catch can with the breather on top.
I haven't installed it yet but it's on the list of things to do... Here's the how to link I'm using: http://reganrotaryracing.tripod.com/catch.htm |
That's what I was thinking.......wouldn't pass tec. but then again he did say he didn't run REAL tracks which would be self explanatory ! ! ! ! LOL I'm sure they would make him Run a Michalobe at least ! ! ! !

i run as many open track events as my wallet will allow.... been using a Jaz pint catch can w/ top mounted breather/filter for years... pretty cheap, works great, won't shatter and throw glass everywhere.
Your the second to go with the JAZ product and it seems to be reasonably priced. Some of the info I've come across recommends a vented setup as well. Looks like JAZ it is. Thanks to all for the input. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png |

It makes me kinda weary that the guy i line up against might have a loose glass bottle under their hood. What if that were to dislodge under a hard launch, fall out and pop your rear tires? then when you loose control and hit me it will not be pretty...
now if it was a AL beer can that would be a different story! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif |
