I Don't drive the RX in the winter but I did notice that it blows no heat at all just warm . Any idea's on where to start? Heater core? Themostat? I have everything 100% fixed on the car now this is the last thing. Any help or suggestions would be great! Ron
How much work is involved in changing the stat and where should I get one and what temp should I get 180 190 ?? Figured I would change it anyways. 93 Touring 19inch Konig wheels, Veilside C1 Spoiler, 99 chin spoiler 98 C5 Vette Conv BBS LM wheels 03 Eclipse GT No mods YET!! 84 Fiero Indy 500 Pace Car 84 Fiero Indy 500 Pace Car |
if u look at the end housing you'll see a tube connected to a plastic black piece that sticks out, that's for the heater. follow that to your heater core. your thermostat would only be the problem if the car was overheating.

And FYI, they dont blow heat through the vents. Heat only comes from the floor and defrosters.
Something about warm air blowing on your face makes you tired. |
If I have heat blowing through the upper vents AND those on the floor, the air isn't very warm. Try using just the upper or just the lower vents. I get plenty of heat this way.
On the heat out of the upper vents; every newer car I've owned blows heat through the upper vents as does my FD. Kyle |
by the way, in regards to the thermostst, overheating is NOT the only issue regarding this pesky little device. if the t'stat is STUCK OPEN, then the car will take MUCH longer to heat up. i just got through dealing with this same issue....

I think Vosko doesn't have a themostat. Thats why his car takes 1/2 hour to get heat. Maybe that is your problem?
|
in regards to the slower heating, it is also bad because the engine internals have to heat up and set at the normal temp, thus opening a greater window for err on the drivers' part....
|
Thermostat is prolly stuck open.
Heat DOES come from the upper vents. A stuck open thermostat is bad because, it takes the engine longer to heat up causing less heater output, and more carbon to build up inside the engine |
I have no heat from upper vents also...... what is the verdict on this? the heater core?? I thought you'd get a coolant smell or something if that was bad
|
Not if the heater core is plugged up with lime and crap, it will reduce water flow causing no heat.. If the thermostat is not present or stuck open the car will run too cool and you will have less heat.. This is also bad for making power.. a 13B will produce the most power when it running at around 85-90' C.. not sure what that is in 'F...
lol.. 8 years in Japan and 3 in Germany before that has made me forget the SAE system.. I'm all metric now.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
Ooops, there are also a couple of flapper doors controled by solinoids under the dash that redirect air to the heater core and also to the different vents, If these solinoids arn't working then they will now allow the hot air to go to the right places, or by pass the fan air around the heater core all together.. There is also a valve in there some place that shuts off the water flow to the heater core like when you've got the a/c on.. I beleve this valve is also controled by a solinoid as well or it may be mechanical. This solinoid or cable is controled by the temp knob.. any of these will also give you no or very little heat..
If your cold and lazy, you can also pull the rubber boot off of the shifter well... You'll get some nice warm air out of there... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
If you have good heat temps from the florr vents and the defrost vents, but not the main dash vents then there is nothing wrong. I went through this myself quite a while back, after some deep research I found out that mazda did something to the controls so that there will no be full heat out of the dash vents. (I was told this was so you don't fall asleep from all the hot air hitting your face). How true that is I don't know, but I do know many people with fd's that ahve good heat output except for the main dash vents
|
I get just as much heat out of my dash vents as anywhere else... And every other FD I've been in put out heat like a mofo as well (and that's quite a few FD's).. I think that what ever is broke on your cars is just a common part that breaks on the FD heating system.. If one of you figures out what it is make sure to post it so all the other people here can fix their ****.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I get good heat from the dash vents and the floor vents, but not at the same time. If I try to have heat come out of both the upper and lower vents it seems that the temperature of the air is reduced significantly. I usually just put it on one or the other. Good luck.

well... on a 93 touring. heat comes good from up top and below. the only thing that is bad is that the right center vent doesn't give heat. its the same on my moms 93 626. its weird. we thought it was just a problem with mazda's.
|
Hmm.. just an idea, but if it's really cold where you live you might want to try and block off part to 1/2 of the radiator with some cardboard.. the cars are probably over cooling...
|
yeah my FD has no t-stat i think. took freaking forever to get heat. froze my ass off LOL
