HI, just picked up a 93 FD, Silver with Red interior, 72k miles and no engine rebuild. Luckly Im directly related to Sweet7 and he can help me with alot of stuff when he gets home. Ok here are the things I noticed driving it for the first time today. The engine ideals(sp?) really low at about 150-450 RPM and jumps around. Looks like it has a pin drop oil leak (no idea if its trany or Engine, is driping off oil pan). It has no boost gauge so I really have no Idea whats going on there. What are your guy's suggestions on small things I should buy so on. Any idea on what the engine life is so on? Thanks for the Help guys.

Alright, also should I get a compression test? The lady who owned it before said it needed new seals and the bearing on the turbos wern't exactly on. Could someone explain this more in depth to me? What do I need to do to replace the seals and fix the bearings on the turbos?

IMO, DEFI 'D' series boost matches the OEM gauges well, including the back-lighting at night. It's also inexpensive (~$115) and relatively acurate.



Yes, get the compression checked. That's an awful low idle rpm. Does you car have an airpump?

Where should I go to get the compression checked? Any suggested places in colroado? I have no idea if its got an airpump.

Also does anyone have some links for gauges, OEM, Defi, HKS so on?

Woot update. So my dady is a nut-job, goes out and buy this FD on a whim. Pretty ******* cool eh? Well anyways, my FD is running pretty strong, and this one obviously needs some love. So......gonna trade my family straight across for this FD, and they can have my 94 VR. Thata way I'll get the silver FD i've always wanted, and they get a strong running FD.

I would definitely get the compression checked and do a rebuild before it lets go. Any Mazda shop worth it's salt should be able to check your comp..

Well dont let him fool you. My dad owns the FD in all reality. He went and picked up this silver FD at an auction, because he figured it was trashed and would make a decent parts care for me. But, obviously, it turned out to be in pretty kick-ass condition. But thats why it was so easy to let my parents know I wanted the Silver one. They are getting my VR and I have no idea what they are gonna do with it. But so far, my little brother has some serious experience and knowledge to learn before he gets in an FD.

1st off you should have done the compression test before you bought it....if you do it now it's just for your reference. If she said it needed seals she is probably reffering to coolant seals, because if it were your apex seals the far would run fairly rough depending on the severity, with that many miles on the turbo's there very well could be some wear on the turbo bearings, if it turns out to be either your coolant seals or the apex seals your looking at an engine rebuild. You can have the turbo's dont when you do the engine and then everyting will be "exactly on"

Couldn't get a compression test before It was bought (was bought at an auction on the spur of the moment) Im pretty sure that it is coolant seals... Luckly its Sweet7's now.....he can deal with it in a few months lol.

Its getting a new motor and GT35r, no worries.
