I just bought a 1993 Touring FD3S last weekend. I posted pics on the newbie forum along with my 1993 VW Corrado. I noticed a few things while driving and I'm wondering if its normal. After all I bought the car with 70k miles for $8200 and I'm thinking there has to be something mechanically wrong with it. The turbos seem fine.

Does the 3k RPM coldstart only happen if I release the parking brake before starting the car? Or is it supposed to happen no matter the position of the parking brake?

Is the clutch petal supposed to engage really high? Or does that mean my clutch is probably on its way out? Can it be adjusted...is it a hydraulic clutch?

My 1-2 shift seems to grind gears pretty often. But it seems like it only happens if I shift before the 4000 RPM mark. Is that normal? Should all the shifts be pretty smooth?

The hood squeaks. I remember reading somewhere that theres an easy fix but I can't seem to find it again. Anyone ever fix it?

I kno I asked many questions...but I really would like some answers. Thanks!

If you want to disengage the AWS you have to start the car in gear and wait a couple seconds. AWS is bad for the rotary engine because it will put a lot of wear on your rotor bearings. Since the oil plug hasnt warmed up enough to allow full oil lubrication. Parking brake has nothing to do with it.

Yes the clutch is hydraulic. It might seem a little high to you and it might actually be set too high. There is an adjuster on the clutch. You can find out how to adjust it on I Luv My RX7 and go to the service manual sections.

First thing i would do is change out the transmission fluid with some RedLine. It is quite possible that it could clear that problem up. Either that or the previous owner has ruined the 1-2 synchros. The transmission should shift smoothly into all gears. Usually with cold weather it will be a bit notchy.

I've never had this problem but i'm sure you could fix it with some rubber washers or something. Some of the other fellas might know how to fix that one. Its supposedly a common problem.

the ghetto way to fix the hood squeak is to wrap electrical tape around the loop in the hood for the hood latch. it will last a few months till the tape wears thin, then do it again.
