i'm currently looking at 3 cars the 93+ 7's two 95 3kgt vr-4's and a 94 supra tt.

i love the sound and performance of the 7 but i will be using this as a daily driven car then buy summer having it completely done up exterior and engine and maybe go single but i am wondering if there safe as a daily driver and reliable to start and keep running. because currently all my other cars are sold or have been totaled. so would this be a good car for me as a daily driven 450hp vehicle.

thanks,

Jon

The Rx7 can be a reliable daily driver, if tuned properly (which isn't difficult).. 450 HP is a LOT for an RX7.. or any car for that matter.. but in the 7, 450hp is a TON. regardless, it can be done.

If you have a fast internet connection, read this scanned article:

Talk to vosko about that one.. he's had extensive experience with his 400+ hp FD on the street.

Oh, and you're easily looking at $10,000 to push a lot of HP. There are many upgrades besides a turbo that can be required to make 400+ hp. You'll absolutely need a turbo, FMIC, full exhaust, fuel computer, fuel pump, intake, injectors, and all the stuff that supplements that. Additionally, you should be planning on spending the cash on a big streetport, and motor rebuilds. If your tuner is good, they can get it right, the first time.. if they're not good, or you tune yourself, be ready to build a motor a few times...

if you want some advice to save money, dont buya supra...overpriced bastages. very nice car though.

anyway if you wanna aim for 450+rwhp on a 7 here's main tips (my goal as well)

1. 3rd gen with blown motor ~5k-6k

2. Send Motor and Stock Turbos to BNR for engine rebuild/porting and Stage 3 Turbo rebuilds ~$5k-6k (depends on condition)

3. Power FC or other computer w/ commander and datalogit ~ $2k

4. Reliability mods (AST, new rad, bigger/better intercooler, etc etc) ~2k (random guess)

5. New Fuel Injectors and Fuel Pump ~$???

6. Couple other thing i've forgotten so we'll just tack on another ~2k for the hell of it

that's ~$18k-20k (guessed and added random prices for fuel inj. and pump)

Bryan at BNR said with his engine and turbos you should hover around 450rwhp on a daily drivable car (SPOAutos is running ~450hp daily on same setup without clipped turbine wheels)

and thats still cheaper then buying a Supra TT without even the BPU shiznazz.

i'm in xenia,

ok it might help you guys help me if i told you how much i was gonna spend 14,000 to blow right now and another 4-5,000 in about 5 months

so what do you think i should do. because i'm also completely vehicle less right now which sucks. and i have no clue how long it would take them to rebuild and what not.

and another ? what kinda times would 450hp get me on the track and what are the top speeds of the 7 i know there a 5speed so stock would it be about 130-140mph or more than that

get the rx7. truly a beautiful car, and you will fully reape the benefits of it if you can work on it yourself and love it.

everyone has their opinions, but the 3kgt vr-4 should not even be in the picture. as many other rx7 owners might hate to admit, the supra might be a better contender for the daily driver, but who cares? i luv my rx7...

we just relish in our issues regarding the reliability of the rotary, when really, there are just as many issues with the supras, we are just not on their boards all of the time...

I hit 140 in my stock 7. And stopped.. so there's prob. a little more room to go.. 450hp RX-7.. prob. gonna take some work.. not trying to say don't get one.. but if don't have a true passion for them.. you'd be better off with a 300Z. At least that's my opinion.
