hey guys, i need a new radiator for my 95 R2.
i have heard good things about the Koyo and Fluidyne. But i want one that bolts on with no modification. alot of ppl have installed the koyo with minor modifications. but they're mostly base/touring models. another one is the fluidyne, which should bolt on with no modification at all into the stock location. BUT, the oil cooler line will be in kindering the extra 1/2 inch... does anyone with an R1/R2 model got something in mind for a real BOLTON radiator? thanks in advance. George |
George your not gonna have alot of luck finding one that requirs absolutely no fitting.
Almost anything is going to require a small amount of work to fit it into place. I have the large m2 race rad. I had to mount the brackets on the radiator to mount it in the car. I spent about an hour getting mine to fit. |

I installed an SR Motorsports Ultimate Radiator a month ago and it actually required ZERO modifications of any kind.

i had the mazdacomp radiator and you have to trim the baffles off one side (it was designed for a non ac car), and then it fits like stock

Fluidyne fits nearly perfect.

Yes, the SR Motorsports radiator is the 2" thick one. It seems to work fine.
I took the car for a spin up a really long and steep mountain road a few weeks ago. I never took it up with the stock radiator. Most cars will overheat if you push them super hard on this mountain. My FD started to get a bit warm about 3 miles into it. It didn't overheat but the temp gauge did move a bit above the middle position. Which on the FD means it was pretty hot. The car has not intercooler or airbox mods. |
hm... a little off topic, but... why do our cars have such a cooling problem.
a little mountain running will cause the car to heat up so bad. like RX73rdgen have stated. most FD will overheat on the mountain runs... it just makes me worry a lot if i do take it up for some fun without modding my car.... anyways, RX73rdgen, did you do the intercooler duct mod? it's just sealing the gaps between the airduct and radiator and intercooler. it might help cooling. i hope the oil cooler lines wont hinder me from installing my SR 2" radiator. Dave-
nice looking radiator.. how much was it? were the fans included? |
I would imagine your seconardy oil cooler lines won't get in the way. I'm putting on a R1 seconardy intercooler shortly so I guess I'll find out too!

yeah some R1 models had a secondary intercooler. It's a rare dealer installed option...
... yeah we wish!!! No I meant oil cooler of course! Just can't type. |
