What is this thing, what does it do? Im not sure if I broke it or if it was always broken. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

looks like the oil level sensor wire you are holding, yup its broken , yup your goin to want to fix that.

what would be the best way to fix it? Open up the black thing with all the wires in it behind my hand and find the other part of the wire and splice it in?

It should only be one wire from the loom to the male/female connector then the wire will continue down to the oil level sensor. If the single wire broke on either side of the connector, it can just be stripped at both ends and spliced back together using a butt connector and some electrical tape.

Try getting one of those quick connectors from Summit Racing that can be reused. They twist on and off. Otherwise, if you have to remove the pan, engine, wire harness, etc, then you will have to cut the wire and then add another wires and splice two connections.

Mine is broken as well. If you have a good habit of checking the oil then you are ok. If you don't check it weekly, you need to get it fixed or the low oil light will not turn on.

So the only thing that wire does is tell you via the dashboard gauge if the oil gets low?

are These the quick connectors you are talking about? Could they be found at any hardware store?

Is there something I can do after reconnecting the wire to prevent this from happening again?

Is there something I can do after reconnecting the wire to prevent this from happening again? It probably got broke from an engine rebuild (remove/install). If the wire is allready brittle nothing. You can try zip tieing it to the wire harness to keep it from floppin around. I will be buying a new harness.

My lt1 has the same thing. No big deal.

Dude, relax and get a sense of humor. Atleast you didnt actually run out of oil and kill your bearings because of that broken wire. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png
