Hey guys this is my first post. So hello all rotoary fans....



First off I am very new to the rotary motors. I purchased a 94 rx7 last year while i was in the army and never got to drive or see it. Now I am home and out of the service and its time to dump money into it and make it the biggest beast in town lol...



Ok first I want to send my motor off to be rebuilt to hold some good amount of boost and to get ported and polished?? any good shops that you guys recamend??? that does good jobs for not millions of dollars lol....



second is I bought a single turbo manifold to mount up a t70, t66, or t80 and a t04r turbo... I really like the t70 turbos and the one I found is brand new and has .84/.70 a/r's now since I am new to these motors is this a good choice for size for the 13b motor?? I dont plan on takin it past 9000 rpm. I am installing this weekend my walbro 255 fuel pump and my 1600 secondary injecctors (on the rail that is). I bought a DLI twin power igniton system from HKS, and am about to order a AEM ems system so i can fine tune everything... does this sound like a good setup so far to you guys???



I am looking to get around 400hp at the wheels @15psi hopefully, and anymore is just bonus.. but once i hit my 400hp mark I will prob quit building it up as whats the point for a street car with light duty on the strip and i dont feel like puttin a cage in it... I would like to know what you guys think of my setup well future setup once I buy my turbo, and get my motor rebuilt... also the intercooler setup is going to be fully custom fmic unit unsure of the size but im gonna fit the largest core in my bumper that i can fit and I will be using mandrel bent 2.5" pipe... and a greddy type r bov... I will pick out my wastegate when I get my turbo that a way i can make a good match up....

The thing I'm concerned about your built is, who's going to tune it for you??



I haven't heard that many good things about AEM.. I would go with PFC as there are lot more PFC tuners around.. Unless you are familiar with AEM or you know someone who's really good with AEM..



Also do some search about turbos. 400HP is doable with BNR twins and you might be happier with seq. twin by BNRsupercars, than large single. I personally prefer twins and seq system as you have more RPM range.. But others might disagree.. Or check out some GT series and ball bearing ones.. Its costly but might be worth it..

For getting the engine built I'd go with Dave Gibson at speedmach. (sponsor of this board) a t-70 will get you the 400hp..I would also lean more twords the PFC over the AEM..one thing I reallly like about the PFC is the PFC has a commander so no laptop needed to make adjustments. As said before about the turbo..look at spool up..look for something in BB turbo.. thats just some suggestions from what others have used with success. Either way in the end its your car and what you want..just remember spend the extra cash, do it right the first time.

thanks guys yah i havent bought it yet, I like the idea of the twins or the bb turbo... I do want to do it right and leave it be. I am going with the FC now as the shop here specializes in them... thanska lot and ill ask more questions when im not at work.. lol

Interesting first post. I know you already mentioned you had changed plans to go with PFC which is a good choice. I agree with Herblenny. The AEM is not as widely used and not many people are skilled with it. I am one of the lucky ones who has someone local to me who is. Sounds like you might have a ebay manifold. The way you describe it I assume it's a T4 print? If that is the case you can easily fit more turbos that you mention.

400rwhp on 15psi, I don't know all the turbos on the market but you'll at least want to look into t-78, to4r,to4z, 60-1, t-67, k51r, gt35r, gt4o, r-85, and others... Dependent upon the turbo of coarse but for down low power keep the A/R small. Down to .85 and under. Bigger will just take longer to spool and opnly provide more top end anyway, and who really needs more power at 120+MPH anyway? Drag racers I suppose.

Herblenny also had me laughing at the 9k rev comment. Thats kind of up there. Most people set their rev limits around 7800rpm. 9k is up in periphal port territory.



Ported motor, for 400hp you would want a street ported engine. Which is just enlarging the four intake ports and the two exhaust ports. There is no polishing that is involved to speak of. This will increase top end and it can help spool up a turbo. You didn't list your locale so we can't really suggest someone local. There are many shops that are capable of building you a good motor.

I think aem ems's are the best you have tons of choices that the pfc dosent and its way easier to get a great tune out of u just have to learn the software witch is realy easy since it has a search feature to learn as u go the base maps are great and so are the logging capabilites. people here bad things because u have to tune it alot the files corrupt and its tempermental to weater change more than 15 degrees.

I don't know much about AEM.. but what you just described doesn't sound that good.



What I don't understand is why deviate from PFC when so many people have used it and proven its stability and tuneability. Also there is a far more better support for PFC when you do infact start tuning yourself via datalogit. And for most newbs (including myself https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR) commander is a definite plus which most stand alones do not have. Overall PFC is a better choice for installation and for monitoring.. If someone wants to go better standalone, I would go Haltech before I go AEM.
