My passenger door handle (on the outside) will no longer open the door. Its raining outside right now so I haven't had a chance to mess with it. The handle from the inside still opens the door. I also noticed my drivers side is starting to become hard to open. Any quick tips I can take while I wait for the rain to stop.

lube up the drivers side before you break it too. them's is $200 door handles
mike |
yep take the drivers side out and oil the hell out of it, they are $200 and your are **** outta luck for the one you broke. When one of mine broke, I tried every type of super epoxy/glue on the market, all failed :(
|
mine are on their way out also.....
|
yep... best thing is to oil it up REALLY good, or try to use some kind of grease that doesnt wash away with water, because rain will only make it worse. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR

hmmm something to keep in mind for me........ both my doors on cold days need two tugs to get it open

on the passenger side, you probably broke the clip that holds the rod that connects the handle to the latch.
On the interior of the DOOR, there is a metal rod that reaches up from the latch to the handle. a plastic clip is used to retain the rod. i've seen it break before, causing the exact same prob. Try to jimmy-rig it if you broke it (and it's not just seperated), or try to get one of the clips off a parts car. I don't have any more, sorry. |
FC door handles break more often than FD's i'm sure. I've gone thru 3 of them. and i've always been carful. Granted they were used when i bought them, but still for god sake. I am going to just invest in some new ones from Mazda Trix. 60 bucks a piece. and save alot more time and hassle.

Here you go man. Pretty cheap as of right now.

Just got back from inspecting what happened. The one plastic piece that sits up against a metal bracket leading down the door came apart. I looked at the drivers side, and there is a little give, so i'm guessing there is a little clip or some sort of dowel that holds them together. This is something that can be "rigged" up for sure, might take a little patience but its doable. Thanks for all the help guys https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

I found a fix, heres what I did...too bad I don't have the company digital camera anymore to illistrate, you may get confused at my teminology. I drilled a very small hole through the plastic piece (part that moves when you lift the handle), took some wire and ran it through the hole and around the metal piece in several different patterns (part that allows the metal rod to open the door). This allowed the two to move together, pushing the metal rod down, and opening the door. However, something was a little funny with it and it was a pain to open, it wouldn't push the metal rod down far enough. So I made a spacer with some metal, drilled two holes, put a bolt through one new hole and the existing hole where the metal rod fits in, and moved the metal rod to the other new hole. This put the metal rod further down, so it only take a very small amount of lift to actually open the door. I think i'm going to go ahead and do the same thing to the drivers side even though its not broke.
|
Here this might help a little. In this pic you see a small yellow plastic tab, where the metal rod fits. This is where I made the spacer.
