I have a vivid imagination, but not that vivid...

PICS GODAMMIT!!!

yonner 03-06-2005 12:55 PM

what was the point in this post :S

Il RX8 lI 03-06-2005 03:15 PM

Hold on, hold on, I guess I can give you some pics while I'm trying to replace the headlight bulbs and the seats are out...

Il RX8 lI 03-06-2005 03:27 PM

Here. The headlight cover on the driver's side is off for a) replacing the bulb, and b) the cover's plastic is broken on the bottom so we're going to replace that as well.

Il RX8 lI 03-06-2005 03:29 PM

The headlight cover is off because I'm replacing the bulb and we need to replace it. (Plastic's busted on the bottom.)

Il RX8 lI 03-06-2005 03:29 PM

Grr...my IE's screwing up, really sorry for the double post.

Il RX8 lI 03-06-2005 03:39 PM

By the way, the headlight bulbs are hard as piss to get out of the housing. Any tips?

Il RX8 lI 03-06-2005 04:48 PM

Got the bulbs in, pretty tricky compared to my friend's VW. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png The headlight cover is still broken on the bottom, but I had it in place for these pics.

Il RX8 lI 03-06-2005 04:49 PM

A shot of that sexy ass.

KingFD 03-06-2005 05:51 PM

So thats how you got your post count up. A new post for a new sentence,. Maybe I should try that. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

She looks good. When you got the 20B going in?

Il RX8 lI 03-06-2005 06:19 PM

Oh, sorry about the posting like that but I reached the pic size limit for the two of the angle and front so I had to have a new one for the rear. 20B's coming after we get a few things restored to new condition. The paint, there's a dent or two, headlight cover, etc. After that, we're going full 99 spec. Then it'll allow us to fully focus on the performance. Pics and updates later on.

Il RX8 lI 03-06-2005 08:21 PM

We noticed on the trip back with it the it was smoking close to the downpipe and it smelled exactly like burning oil. (This is under the car.) We got home and got under it and it definitely has an oil leak somewhere thanks to it being all over the undercarriage. I'm thinking it's the oil metering lines but Dad's skeptical and wants to know for sure where to look. Any ideas?

rotaryinspired 03-06-2005 10:14 PM

Probably the turbos. How many miles are on them?? It seems like every one I have seen has a tendency to leak oil around them.

Il RX8 lI 03-06-2005 10:16 PM

It's got 97k on it.

original engine? its not the metering lines unless someone had it apart and broke em. its more likely to be the oil pan, rear stationary gear o ring, oil filter base o rings, metering pump o ring, or a motor mount (yes they leak too)

You have an Rx-8, a 3rd gen Rx-7 with plans for a 20b, you were going to throw hundreds of dollars into flashy guages (with no idea of how well they work) and you're 18. Where are you getting all this money? If it's from your parents, they have even less sense than you.

Il RX8 lI 03-07-2005 06:50 AM

Would pics of the undercarriage help at all on here?

DUB 03-07-2005 09:28 AM

if you are going to take pics why don't you just look to see where the oil is coming form https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

Il RX8 lI 03-07-2005 01:34 PM

Well, my thinking is that there's some chance of someone saying "Oh man, that's exactly how mine is/was!" then they could help diagnose. We were looking pretty late last night and were both tired as hell from cleaning and fixing a couple of things. I figured I'd just ask for an opinion on here before I went to bed.

GreyGT-C 03-07-2005 08:41 PM

damned motor mounts.... always ****** leak! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

teknics 03-07-2005 10:19 PM

ok:

a) you cant change a ****** headlight bulb without breaking something

b) you cant figure out an oil leak, that apparently is so massive its all over the under carriage.

seriously you need to rethink the whole "i think im a mechanic" thing. stick to a civic with a stock motor.

seriously, youre just going to ruin the cars, sell them for half what you paid and become a rotary hater...all cause your an idiot.

kevin.

OK, just real quick, maybe things are different in Japan, but R2? Do you mean RZ? And if is an RZ where is the RZ emblem that would be on the pillars behind the doors? Just curious.

Il RX8 lI 03-08-2005 06:52 AM

The R2 package. It was the R1 in '93 but when the '94 models came out, it became the R2. It was pretty much a handling package and true R models don't have a sunroof. People back then would buy the touring and then put R model parts (ie: strut bar) on there so they could "have it all."

Il RX8 lI 03-08-2005 06:56 AM

Oh yeah, headlight cover had broken plastic when we bought it. It was just kind of "snapped in" with all of the mounting plastic held on by the screws. Epoxy will be a temporary solution.
