found one mount to be steel and the other aluminum...

is this norm...

for the 93's yea... so if you want to upgrade you have to buy the other two piece mount.... ask dragon, he had a few available... well, if you buy his mounts anyway! i did, i can't wait to install em.....

mine were both alum when i needed to replace one. i was dissapointed to find that steel was all i could get. i would think that one has been replaced before.

i believe the new ones are cast iron or steel..

as the aluminum ones were the ones prone to cracking..

can someone confirm this..

This is 100% correct, the design of the aluminum ones sucked so the new ones that you get are the same as the passanger side.

The aluminum ones appear to be GLUED together in tension. About as dumb as it gets.

Mine was being held together with that dinky little metal band.

The aluminum one jsut has the rubber portion vulcanized onto the metal. They always break. Its a horrible design as the motor torques towards the passenger side and that mount was on the driver's side. Thus the pulling force on it breaks it. In 94+ mazda started using the cast iron ones on both sides. Those actually have a bolt that pass through it.
