Hey guys, im new to the web site, and have a important question that i need help qith quick. I have an oppertunity to purchase a 93 RX (R-1) model. hes asking only 10 grand the car has 68,000 miles on it ans seems to be in great shape. The problem is it has very low boost on the secondary turbo, at and above 5,000 rpm. It has good compression, and runs fine, just the boost problem. Am i looking at one of the many Vaccume hoses for the turbos or something more? Thanks, for any help
Trevor If possible email me any helpful hints at Trev1979@yahoo.com https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif |
Trev you are more than likely right about the vacuum line. Some other things to check are leaks(tranny, diff, radiator), conditions of all hoses, tires, and wiring harness. all of these things are exposed to the heat of the engine and have high mileage. 68k is actually low for that year car but in general terms is still high mileage. Also ask the owner what type of oil and brand of spark plug he is using. He should be using NGK plugs and something like 20w/50 oil. Hope you get the car. It sounds like a good car.

someone in here unpin this, LOL
Trev its more than likely its a vacuum leak. 10k sounds like a really good price for that! |
your first task is to figure out if the second turbo comes on and has low boost, or doesnt come on at all, or if it sometimes works.
if it sometimes works, its most likely a check valve, possibly a solenoid if it never works; it most likely a blown off hose at the solenoid with the white dot on it under the plenum if it comes on but has low boost, pre cat, boost leaks? mike |

I think your looking at a boost leak. when i first bought my rx7 i got 10psi on the first turbo then during change over it would go down to 8psi then insted of going back up to 10psi the boost would just fall down to 2psi.
