I sold the m2 large IC. Now should i go with a 2 or 3 row greddy front mount. I am installing a single turbo in the next few weeks. Also where to mount the greddy BOV?

Fd3BOOST 05-10-2004 03:54 PM

Not all at once now...

Anyway i made up my mind and thanks for the suggestion J.

Sinful7 05-10-2004 03:57 PM

3 ROW!

eh, too little, too late. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png

treceb 05-10-2004 04:00 PM

lol. i never did such things to my car. however....3 row is better than 2, no.

my BOV is after the intercooler. most others ive seen or read about, i think are before the intercooler(i think).

so my thoughts wouldnt have helped u anyway.

but im glad that u were able, like the big boy u are, to come to this conclusion all on your own...

Fd3BOOST 05-10-2004 04:46 PM

Thanks for the input fellas, Im gonna put the BOV on the cool side IC pipe and I'm going with the 3 row.

Fd3BOOST 05-10-2004 05:30 PM

Ok where can I get a greddy three row and pay with paypal? I tried calling rx7 trix but the newer guy Mike doesn't know rx7's and could tell me how long it would take to get the item to me. So anyone know who stocks a 3row and accepts paypal?

Sesshoumaru 05-10-2004 05:56 PM

what level of boost?

3 row is bad for low levels due to pressure drop (larger core)

2 row can operate fine and cool effectively for modest boost levels reducing pressure drop. The the turbo won't have to push as hard for same level at tb and ends up generating more heat to compensate.

mounting the bov is personal choice b/c

after the ic - you just wasted your air that you cooled and only gained heat in IC

after tb - better prevention of compressor surge due to proximity of the butterflies.

some ppl use two for the both of best worlds. It's excessive but you do have two valves you can use from the stock if your going non-seq.

rfreeman27 05-10-2004 07:13 PM

Dave go three row. People specualte about the bov, but i think the cool side makes the most sense. If you look at the stock location it was on teh y-pipe, so who knows what is best...

You mean Before/after the IC right? I think it would be just a little pointless to hook up your BOV after the TB https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blush.png

Sesshoumaru 05-10-2004 07:17 PM

both should be after ic

FikseRxSeven 05-10-2004 07:56 PM

three row intercooler, and mount the bov on the pipe between the elbow and the intercooler https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

SPOautos 05-10-2004 08:48 PM

Why did your sell the M2 large??? Its a real good IC. Personally I would have kept it. Like someone else mentioned put the bov between the IC and TB

Fd3BOOST 05-10-2004 08:58 PM

Do you guys actually read my posts? I said that I already decided on the 3 row so there is no need to tell me all about the differences of the two. I am running it on a single turbo, will be running 18 psi.

Stephen, yes I know it's a good intercooler I have been using it for over two years, I want a front mount now, that is why i decieded to try out something else.

Fd3BOOST 05-10-2004 08:59 PM

Oh what I do want to know at this point is posted a few up.

Where can I get a three row on line from someone that accepts paypal..

93 R1 05-10-2004 09:00 PM

Why Greddy? I saw/helped a little with installing one at Dee's house and it was ******* stupid. No english instructions. Mislabeled parts. Poor fitament.

I wouldn't spend my money on a Greddy. Go Apexi or Blitz. And BOV after intercooler.

Fd3BOOST 05-10-2004 09:01 PM

I like the Greddy and if you actually try you can mount it really nicely, My m2 duct was about as jimmy rigged as you get and i didn't have any problems with that. I even refiberlassed the duct and what not so i am fairly confident that I wont haven any problems that I cant solve.

93 R1 05-10-2004 09:08 PM

Its not a big deal or anything, it just took alot longer and there was some fabrication involved, which I don't think you should have to do when you pay that much ******* moneys.

SPOautos 05-10-2004 09:15 PM

I know you already made you mind and all but if you can do some fab work you should try and do your own Vmount. You'll get twice the amount of airflow to cool the coolant and charge air with a set up like that

Now you guys got me thinking twice and ****. How exactly does a V mount work with the radiator? I wish there were more images of set ups on the internet. We should have a catalog of all the parts and whatnot.

Here is the general idea of where I am heading..

Fd3BOOST 05-10-2004 09:51 PM

A few things I dont like about the front mount. Moving the radiator out of its original location I think sucks. Since I dont have it here in front of me I dont know how I can improve that general set up. As far as ducting etc. I had added extra ducting to my M2. I would be filling the holes around a front mount as well to best route the air. But my problem with the M2 and a singel turbo is the tight bend in the turbo to intercooler pipe, plus I would like to clear out some space in the engine bay. Anyone who has the 3 row car to chime in?

Get creative Dave!

93 R1 05-10-2004 10:07 PM

relocating the rad was the main thing I didn't like about the greddy. The junk ass brackets they sent looked like a 5 year old made them. Dee ended up throwing them out and making his own after ******* with them for a while.

V-mount isn't a bad idea but its expensive. Apexi isn't supposed to be too bad. Neither is Blitz.

LOL, No I'll pass on all that. Dee has some crazy setup that he made. Air to Icebox some ****. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Plus i'm sure Phins can order you a greddy 3 row for the FD, since he sells greddy products.

No offence to Chuck but that V mount is way over priced. I would never pay that much for an intercooler. I could build one myself for under $300 if i had a decent TIG welder which I don't. Talk about mark up.

93 R1 05-11-2004 03:05 PM

In Chuck's defense his V mount setup comes with a radiator also, not just the intercooler

Well that would explain the high price. Dohh. Sorry Chuck. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

TURBOX2 05-11-2004 03:46 PM

when do yo need the intercooler by?

AgentSpeed 05-11-2004 04:24 PM

I bought the rotary extreme v mount kit. It was expensive, I think my total bill was just shy of 3 grand.

After the install and the 2 short days I drove it around before the motor popped I can say that I would buy it again if I had to do it over.

Good luck with what ever you decide on. I'd offer to take as many pics as you need but my car is at BNR right now getting rebuilt.
