Ok i was looking into buying a third gen Rx-7 for about 15k is that a good price? And how hard is it to work on rx-7's? What should i do first to help keep the car from leading to detonation? I need to know some of the basic mods like radiator, etc..... How many miles is the 13b good through?I've seen Rex's with 113,000 miles on them, but i didn't think the rotary engine was that dependable. Just a few questions for ya. :bigthumg:

The Robinnette site is a really good site. I think i use that site more than any other site on the web.... maybe a little to often

I was thinkin of buying one too. I want to get one early next year though. I would like to get my REPU going first so that I have a bit of experience maintaining the rotary first. This way I will have good maintenance habits by the time I get it. I found a couple around here but the dude wanted like 25k for one and it looked seriously tampered with. I haven't asked about the other one but it looks to be more orignal and kept stock.

What would be things to look for when hunting for one. I also have access to dealer autions so I could probably score a repossed one real cheap.

I have one thing to say.. IF YOU BUY AN FD YOU"D BETTER HAVE A BIG BANK ACCOUNT TO BACK UP THAT PURCHASE!!!! If you buy an Fd with all your hard saved cash and have zilch left in the bank, you are asking for trouble

That's why I wanna wait till next year, by then I will have paid of all my debts and have money to spare. Plus I should have 2 Parking spaces by then.

Yea I found it a few years ago. Well before I found any of the forums. I would suggest that when you get a 3rd gen a few things should be addressed first.

-Boost guage. Need one to monitor your turbos.

-Silicone vacum hoses. The stock ones get hard a brittle and will crack or blow off. This obviously causes boost leaks. The average shop will charge around $400-$500 to do it for you. The job is really not that hard if your willing to do it yourself. How-to's can be found on Robinettes site or "Lighting in a world of thunder" The hose kit can be purchased through hosetechniques.com for around $120

-Downpipe. The stock precat gets clogged fairly quickly . This will slow the exhaust flow out of the turbos generating exsessive heat and shorting the life span of your turbos. Not to mention rob you of performance.

-The other stuff is common things llke replacing oil & fuel filters. Changing Plugs, using a fuel lubricant such as Marvel Mystery oil or Pro-tech R. This will help keep your apex seals lubricated and prolong engine life.

You can go in any direction form there but it's all a labor of love.

Another tip I have heard is to let the owner drive the car first. If he starts the car up and doesn't let the car warm up or if he just shut the car off without letting the turbos cool down then there might be some problems.

Is this a good thing to do????
