I finally got an Rx7, the deal is the fresh engine swap needs to have the bugs worked out. It seems that the speedometer and reverse lights are not hooked up. I couldn't find diagrams in the manual so here i am. Suggestions or diagrams would be appreciated.

Both should be attached to the transmission in seperate locations, reverse switch has two wires that plug in, the wiring might be tucked out of plain view, the speedo cable is much more obvious, if it's in the trans, in the correct position, it might not be screwed down all the way, if it is, more than likely it has come loose from the back of the dash.

don't have my electrical manual here with me... but i do know that if you completely screw up, you can hook 2 connectors on the tranny up backwards.... one of which is to the speedo. Check the 4 plugs on the left rearish end of the transmission ( from under the car) and make sure the internal colors match up with what they are plugged into.
Edit: 89 rag... FDs have electrical speedos... not cable driven |
sweet, thanks. i thought that some of the conectors looked sorta alike but i did not really mess with it. ill try again tomorrow.

there are 4 total down there.... i think one 4 wire and 3 dual wire ones..... just make sure they are yellow to yellow and orange to orange. My buddy helped me do a clutch job years ago and he hooked 2 of them up backwards... no speedo reading... not sure what the other plug was.. never noticed anything else not working.
should take you longer to jack the car up than it does to fix the problem. |
alright here's the deal, i checked all the wires going to the tranny and there is only one way to hook them up so i left them that way. does anyone have any other suggestions or know which wire is which and where it might go that it could be unplugged? thanks for the advice so far, keep it comin.
