My 20b is going to make my paint look really bad plus, I have some minor hail damage on the hood. Was thinking a light weight hood to go with fixed lites before i repaint. Maybe a jdm front as well. Any info on carbon hood vs. stock?

nopistons94 04-25-2005 10:35 PM

the stock hood is already damn light at 15 or so pounds. If you dont want aftermarket styling just get a new stock hood

CF is a waste of money..... i know... i wasted it. My hood weighs about a whooping 6 lbs less than stock. As far as a nose.... you need a LARGE opening if you plan to take it on a track (i remember you referenceing road atlanta in another post) I don't know of ANYONE running a 20B in an FD on a road course that isn't having overheating problems. I think i have that problem covered on mine though.

well.. considering the vents

the aftermarkets serves additional function regardless the small weight lost advantage...

bpmfla 04-26-2005 07:46 AM

I was wondering if the additional vents would aid cooling and lose afew pounds. The front end was for more air entirely. What kind do u think works best? The track is not in the plan now, just autocross. Getting too old to go fast!

Using my finger scale, I've determined that the ViS CF Hoods (via Ebay) are a very similar weight to stock. The original RE Amemyia CF N1 Hood is wicked light, though. maybe 8 lbs?

GreyGT-C 04-26-2005 10:52 AM

yes, the vents help alot with cooling. With the additional support ribbing around the vents... they probably don't save any weight.

Personally, i love my MS nose.. but there are quite a few highly functional nose out now. Look around on Chuck's site and you see alot of them www.rotaryextreme.com.

You're NEVER too old to do track events.

Thanks for the input guys. Checked out rotary extreme's stuff......decisions decisions.....Where to spend the $$. My faded black 93 will be a sleeper until its painted but I want to dial in ( and have some fun) with the 20b before parking for the paint work. I'll post some pics of the motor soon.

Hey GREY-GTC about your front end......do you have any hardware wire or some kind of sceening to avoid rocks and big marbles from tearing up all the cooling parts? Or is it even a problem? Here in south FL there is **** allover the road and I'd hate to hole an expensive part.
