So I'm getting ready to replace my clutch. I've got an ACT clutch, pressure plate and lightened flywheel. My question is should I use the lightened flywheel or not? Some tell me I'll see a big difference, others say not so much. I've heard I'll see a big gain in throttle response, but I've also heard that it will be mainly in 1st and 2nd gear where I really don't need it. I'm more interested in experience over theory so if all you have is an opinion then just keep it to yourself. But if you can back up your opinion with some real world experience then I'm all ears.

I have one on my first gen car. I like it. Less rotating mass means quicker get-go down the road. You can do what you want but if it were me, I would put it on the car since you already have it.

On my GSL-SE it was one of my favorite upgrades, dunno about 3rd gen but I bet it would be worth the bucks.

Subscribed. My car is primarily used on the street...no track but occasional autocross. I'm also waffling on the issue.

i absolutely LOVED the one in my FD. Unless you are heavy into drag racing... use the light weight flywheel.

i thought you had to change the front counter weight when you used a lighter flywheel?

Signal 2 08-18-2009 04:16 PM

No, you just need a rear auto counter-weight.

With everything that's involved, if you had to change the front counter-weight on an FD, I can't imagine there would be much of a market for lightened flywheels.

Yea... what Sig said.

Just about EVERY lightened flywheel on the market comes with the auto counterweight. VERY simple mod while the transmission is out.
